About Me

Hey hey!

I'm Ashley a petite red headed Canadian from Calgary, Alberta! I love travelling, meeting new people and learning about different cultures. I've spent some time living abroad, and have found these experiences to be the most fulfilling. For this, I'm always searching for ways to live in new places and travel often :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I really think the concept is great - a way for travellers to experience a new place as more than a passing visitor. It seems to be a great way to meet new people, learn about local favourites, and of course have somewhere to rest your head!

Interests

I love spending time with family and friends over nice meals and/or drinks! Beyond that, I really love the mountains, and nature in general! In the winter you can find me snowboarding and in the summer hiking (or lounging by a beach). I also enjoy running, yoga, salsa dancing, and have recently started experimenting with water colours (it's harder than it looks!). I've been a vegetarian for about 9 years so I'm always interested in learning of new recipes, and love to cook! And of course, travelling! A big passion of mine, and I'm really excited at the idea of bringing in couchsurfing as a new element!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love music and take any opportunity to listen to it during my day (probably to a fault!) In recent years I have been making a big effort to see more concerts and live music in general. My favourite genres are folk, indie, alternative rock and some electronic! *Now I shall reference my poorly updated iTunes library to list a few favourites* okay, we have: Alt-J, Bon Iver, Fakear, First Aid Kit, Fleet Foxes, Gregory Alan Isakov, The Head and the Heart, Hozier, José Gonzales, Little Joy, Lord Huron, The Lumineers, Mumford and Sons, Odesza, Sigur Rós, The Paper Kites, The Tallest Man on Earth, Tame Impala, Xavier Rudd...ETC!

I'm like everyone in that I enjoy movies and tv series (anything HBO). But in reality, I could re-watch The Office for the rest of my life and be perfectly content.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

At the ripe age of 18 I decided to move to Australia solo on a working holiday visa...I have to admit I was pretty ill prepared, but I endured and had an amazing life experience. I learned how to be comfortable alone, the importance of putting yourself out there, that travelling is more expensive than I realized, that drinking wine directly out of a bag can be socially acceptable, and that koalas aren't as cuddly/cute in real life!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share a big smile, an upbeat attitude, photos (I really take A LOT of pictures), good music and conversations. I think my favourite thing to share with people other than conversation, is wine - truly it's a beautiful thing, and I'm always up for a glass!
