About Me

My name is Pablo and I have been traveling since I was 18 years old. It is, among others but perhaps the most, my great passion. With the passing of time I have gone through different situations, adapting my stay to the circumstances, changing the methods of subsistence and the ways of moving; I have spent days on the road, crossing a country, and whole months in the same place. I did and learned a few things; at least more, I think, than I would have learned in Buenos Aires. I was developing more mature trades and routines, as I found a meaning to everything, but they didn't make me stop; on the contrary, they motivate me to travel more and more and better.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In a way, it's something I've always done, spontaneously and naturally. Although it is not so popular in South America, the logic of travel imposes very similar relationships, in both directions.
From the moment you leave in autostop and with a tent, you are predisposed to spend the night wherever you are... but not in spite of it! It is in this method of surrendering to the vagaries of the road that the most transforming encounters take place, and this openness exceeds (by far) a mere economic question. It is a lesson in humility and respect; and perhaps, the highest point of interaction with the local society.
I have stayed in many houses and received travelers wherever I could spare a space. Spontaneously, by recommendation, or using other search mechanisms; you will not see the references on this platform, but I always carry them with me.

Interests

My greatest fascination is natural environments: parks, waterfalls, rivers, seas, mountains. I love small towns and countryside; I love hiking and exploring. I can't resist the urge to climb, nor can I get to a body of water and not go in, even if it's winter.
In cities, I love to walk for hours, turning every corner I'm curious about, even at the risk of getting lost. I always carry a small backpack with all the essentials. I like museums, ruins and historical sites.

Music, Movies, and Books

The first thing I see when I enter a house is its library. If I have enough time, I'm likely to grab something to read. If I have to leave, I don't mind leaving them in the middle either. I usually take one or two books with me, and when I finish them, I try to exchange them.
If I enter a country of which I don't know the language, in addition to my notebook, I immediately get a book in that language to practice; many times, it's true, I end up not understanding the plot very well...
I love to show music from other places (from my homeland, or from places I've passed through) and to be attentive to local music wherever I am, both traditional and contemporary.
I'm not the most movie-loving person, but if it's about getting into a culture, I like it more. I come from a country with good cinema, so I have a lot to recommend...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Uff... That's a tough one! I think I've seen and done too many things; not just me, but almost every traveler I know.
It would be impossible for me to list them.
The road is full of events, and a little bit each person you meet, in their own way, the most important person in the world. I have experienced the most surreal situations. However, they don't go beyond anecdotes.
I think the most incredible thing is the learning and the changes in my way of thinking. Of having demonstrated my effort and courage, yes, I am proud... but having been in circumstances that were so foreign to those of my hometown, and learning in it trades, techniques, knowledge and looks is incomparable to me. And everything, of course, remains at my disposal, to apply it later.

Teach, Learn, Share

There is a thought that catches me sometimes, when I think about the life I lead and the choice I made one day. For example, when I find myself walking on a country road, on which almost no cars pass, and at a great distance from my destination:
-Who would send me, to be so far away from home, walking kilometers!
And yet, I love to do it.
I think I have collected in these years quite a few learnings, delirious stories, anecdotes with rare and important people... How? How? by dint of experiences. And that's why I keep going. Nothing encourages me more than to be in constant learning, bringing stories from other lands and taking the ones from here. I try to be constantly attentive to my surroundings and observing the differences that each place holds.
