CURRENT MISSION

Joy. To be a good friend and a good person, to always be learning and deepening my awareness and compassion. I want to be a mother someday. I want to be the best, most honest and powerfully loving person I can be for my children and my friends and family.

ABOUT ME

My friends would say I'm outgoing, kind, adventurous and generous. My favorite thing in life is a really great conversation, followed closely by a really great meal. I can be as moved by a spiderweb glinting in the sun or the rainbows in an oil-tinged puddle on the pavement as I am by a vast cathedral or priceless work of art. I love to learn and to imagine. I am a singer-songwriter and musician and I'm often writing parallel versions of reality in my mind as I observe and enjoy each moment.

PHILOSOPHY

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" generally works for me, though my partner has some issues with it. He is a unique dude who values honesty above most else and doesn't think most people want to be treated the way he would like to be. His philosophy is closer to "Treat others the way they would like to be treated." Some happy medium of the two is how I try to move through life. Our world, as broken and damaged as we have made it, is teeming with beauty and I am pretty much in love with it all. We're here to learn and love and create our world and I wouldn't spare myself or others any of it - even the pain of life is a gift if you are able to love it and experience it fully. The best I feel I can hope to achieve is to ease others suffering by sharing all that it is to be human, helping one another to understand and find the pleasure and peace in each moment.

I'm happy to host and be hosted. I look forward to making friends with people I may never otherwise have met!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm new to the site and the project, though I've heard about it from friends for years. But I, like many artists I know, have always relied on the kindness of strangers. I've hosted bands and other kinds of artists coming through town, I've been hosted by friends of friends around the country and the world. I'm happy to make it more official and be part of a bigger, global community!

兴趣

I love people and I love stories. I love that music is a universal language that we can all use to communicate our deepest shared experiences whether or not we understand one another's words. Communication - to understand and be understood - is my fondest longing. I also love ruins - not just the ancient, obvious, wonder-of-the-world type ruins like the Acropolis or the Mayan Temples - but everyday, mundane ruins, like the ones I'm surrounded by here in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Defunct factories being overtaken by flora and fauna, an old hunter's trailer snapped in half by a felled tree with breakfast dishes still sitting on the kitchen table visible through the rend in it's shell, an overturned office chair in a weedy vacant lot - what's the story there? Evidence of lives lived, what separates and what connects us, fascinates me.

Little, Big is a little heard-of book by John Crowley that I re-read every couple of years since I was 15. It's just about perfect. But I love all types of reading - fact, fiction, philosophy, whatev's. I love movies and plays that twist my perceptions and show me new ways of seeing - American Beauty, Fight Club and Adaptation are favorites - I love Spike Jones and Charlie Kaufman, the Coen brothers are wonderful. Stephen Sondheim musicals set the bar high. My own music is most often compared to Joni Mitchell. She is a favorite, as is Tom Waits. But I love all kinds of music.

Having been present at the birth of my goddaughter is the treasure of my life. Her mother and I have been friends since we were children and the love of those like her, who know me well and love me anyway, never ceases to humble even as it harbors me. I've performed around the world, both my own music and with different theatrical and musical groups like Squonk Opera. The kindness and openness of people to share themselves with me and accept what I have to give, the universality of the human experience, as different as our individual experiences can be, has been both awe-inspiring and deeply nourishing.

I'd love to learn to speak other languages. Words are just about the best thing ever - how thrilling to know more words!? I am a singer and writer and I do yoga. I can help others to access their voices and tell their stories by getting in touch with their bodies through breathing and movement.
