I truly believe that the most exciting parts of any journey are the connections we make and the life lessons we pick up along the way. They're the building blocks that make us who we are, and I'm always eager to swap stories and learn from others.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

Hospitality, in other words, opened my eyes and stretched my mind faster than I can imagine.

Through Lonely Planet, since 2005, I've been hosting countless tourists in our humble house in Toraja, and as I let some travelers share their stories with me, in 2011, a guest from Surabaya brought me to Couchsurfing.

As I'm growing and without me realizing, this is all I see and do, knocking on a stranger’s door turned into sending a couch request, or the other way around. Seeking friendly locals on the streets turned into travelers coming to weekly potlucks or gatherings. The positivity was incredible.

Couchsurfing was globalization done right – sharing culture and ideas with no or little financial transaction.

Well, in short, I participate by being a welcoming host and without hesitation will help any traveler who needs my help, also, encourage you to do the same when you are back at your home.

HOSTING STORY
Started in 2005 I used to only host without surf, I put my address and phone number in Lonely Planet, people come and go, mostly from Europe. I could host more than 10 people a week as my parents open our house like it was a free hostel.

I joined Couchsurfing in 2011 and left the Lonely Planet. I am more into gathering, meeting up, and guiding my guests.

SURFING STORY
My very first one was in China, I was hosted by a super kind guy, and I continued to feel the warmth of CSers in South-East Asia and Indonesia as well (one of my best was in Singapore!). Kinda overwhelmed to tell you my surfing experience, but I believe my references are quite representative.

18 hours in the Chinese winter.
I once made the brilliant decision to wear a denim skirt and tank top in China... in the middle of winter. After 18 hours of freezing, I was honestly starting to think I might not make it. But a true Couchsurfing miracle happened—my host, Marcellius Wijaya, found me and saved the day!

Swimming with wild dolphins in the Pacific. There's nothing like seeing wild dolphins up close. They were so playful, happy, and even seemed to be waving hello to the local fishermen.

Discovering a secret, abandoned plane and theme park in Bali. Before it became a popular photo spot, I stumbled upon a massive, abandoned plane that was completely hidden. It felt like finding a secret treasure.

Stumbling onto a magical train in Thailand. I once accidentally hopped onto an old, abandoned royal train carriage in Nongkhai. It turned out to be a hidden library with free Wi-Fi!
