About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To find the best-tasting bottle of wine in the world and brighten peoples days on the way.

ABOUT ME

Growing up my family really instilled into me a desire to seek out the unknown and learn as much about others as possible. My mom is extremely bilingual and works in the interpretation field and she always encouraged me to gain as much knowledge as I could. I'm hoping that CS will give me a chance to learn as much about this world as possible and I'm looking forward to meeting some great friends along the way.

I am studying government and hope to transfer into film school so that I can learn more about cinematography and production. Soon I hope to be a political documentarian in Latin America and from there move on to full scale films and music. Music has become a large hobby of mine and I have had a random passion for making rap music enkindled within me over the college years. ultimately, I want to become a better man than I was yesterday and to find the true satisfaction in achieving my wildless dreams. I love people, cars, cats, dogs, art, music, literature, bubbles, vegetables, fine wine, a well-mixed mixed drink, photography, and poetry. I have found that traveling blends all of these together incredibly well because of the diversity around the world.

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is that one has not truly experienced life until they travel alone and are forced to immerse themselves in cultures and norms foreign to their own. It is only in this way that a human can truly grow on a humanistic level.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I became a CS member after a man named Angelo introduced me to the idea. I met him and his girlfriend at the airport, as I was going home to see my folks in Atlanta and they were going to participate in WorldWideOpportunitiesOnOrganicFarms. They had a layover in Atlanta and we ended up hanging out in Atlanta when we both got there. In the past I have hosted people from all over the world at my house in Austin and I hope to be able to continue to do this wherever and for as long as I live. My goal is to bridge the obvious culture gaps that arise from not taking the time to get to know people from halfway across the world.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I sat next to a couple in the Dallas/Fort Worth airport who were in the same position I was; the dreaded "standby" flight. We found ourselves constantly missing flights and sighing simultaneously as the planes left the airport, one after the other. After a while we struck up a conversation just to pass the time. They were couch surfers who were going to Mumbai India to work on an organic farm for a few months, which sounded incredible to me. We played cards for a couple of hours and ended up trading numbers. After a while I was able to get onto the plane, but they had to wait. The next day I was hanging out in Atlanta when I received a call from them saying they were in the area. We ended up hanging out at another couch surfers house and having a really great night. Ever since I have had nothing but amazing times and fully intend to continue to. :D

Music, Movies, and Books

I really like a lot of Tom Wolfe stuff, as well as Hunter S. Thompson. Lately I've been reading a lot of Palahniuk stuff, but I can only take him in segments because he is quite strange sometimes. As for movies, I try to stay away from the TV, but the last movie I saw was The Wrestler directed by Darren Aronofsky. Music varies too much to explain.

edit 2012: Jeez, kind of the same except for now I'm not afraid to scream at the top of my lungs how rad I think The Sound Of Music is. :D

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing thing I have done in my lifetime is walk around in Atlanta immediately after Hurricane Katrina. It was really spectacular to see firetrucks and portable toilets floating down the street like they were soda cans and wrappers, mainly because before then I had never experienced such drastic destruction of public infrastructure. It really put things into perspective for me. Also, this past summer I went sledding in the Andes; during the summer. Total mindfuck!

Teach, Learn, Share

I lived in the woods for two months and used to be able to bowdrill a fire. Maybe if we have some good cedar or basswood I could teach you how.
