Overview
About Me
Hi! My name is Ayaulym, I’m from Kazakhstan, and I work as a history teacher at a secondary school. I have a big love for stories — whether they come from the past, from books, or from people I meet during my travels.
I enjoy exploring cities not just as a tourist, but as a curious observer — walking through old neighborhoods, visiting museums and bazaars, tasting traditional food, and learning how local people live. Sometimes I travel alone, sometimes with my friend from Belgium.
I’m calm, respectful, and independent, but I also enjoy meaningful conversations — especially about culture, history, or everyday life over a cup of tea.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing isn’t just about a free place to stay — it’s about sharing. I love meeting people who live in the city I’m visiting, learning from them, and exchanging ideas. I always try to be a kind and thoughtful guest, and I’m happy to contribute in any way I can — whether it’s cooking, helping out, or sharing stories from my travels.
Interests
• History, old architecture, traditional art
• Cultures of different peoples, handicrafts, theater
• Bazaars, street food, lively neighborhoods
• Reading books (especially fiction, history, and travel literature)
• Music — from folk to jazz and calm genres
• Conversations about language, identity, and life in different countries
Music, Movies, and Books
Music:
I enjoy many types of music, depending on my mood. I especially love folk music (Kazakh and from around the world), jazz, instrumental, and soft ambient sounds — anything with soul and a story behind it.
Movies:
I’m not a huge movie fan, but I enjoy films that are thoughtful and meaningful — historical dramas, travel stories, or quiet indie films with strong characters and atmosphere.
Books:
Books are a big part of my life. I love reading fiction, history, and travel writing. Some of my favorite topics are identity, culture, and people’s personal stories. I’m always happy to exchange book recommendations!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I once taught a history class as a “time travel” experience, where my students took the roles of historical figures. It became a vivid and memorable lesson — for them and for me 🤗
Teach, Learn, Share
I’m here because I’m genuinely interested in cultural exchange. For me, Couchsurfing is not just about having a place to stay, but about the chance to truly connect with people, hear their perspectives, and experience a place through everyday life and meaningful conversations.
I’m always curious to learn something new — whether it’s about traditions, ways of thinking, languages, or personal stories from different parts of the world.
I’m especially interested in how authentic dishes are prepared in different regions — food is such a beautiful expression of culture.
I deeply respect personal space and never expect anything in particular. I truly appreciate even the simplest shared moments — a cup of tea, a kind conversation, or a walk around the neighborhood.
