About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To educate the youth of our world (including myself!) through the wonderfullness that is theatre.

ABOUT ME

Ok, well I grew up in the smallll town of Farmington in central Maine. We're about 2.5 hours away from the ocean. Think more woods and dirt roads and lakes and rivers. I appreciated the small, tight-knit community while growing up and even more after I went away and came back. I am the oldest of four girls and family has always been extremely important to me.

Directly after high school I set out for Bennington College in Vermont. This was probably the first Best Decision of My Life. Bennington C. is a small (625 under grad students, another 100 grad students) very liberal liberal arts college in the very bottom corner of the green state of Vermont. Bennington stretched my mind, rid me of many inhibitions, asked me questions I didn't know the answers to, and forced me to make decisions for myself and take ownership and pride in who I am. I focused my studies in Theatre and Education with the goal of using the theatre arts as a medium for teaching across the curriculum. This has since become my professional objective.

After college I went straight to Italy and fell in love. With the country. I fell in love with the pace of Italy, the expressiveness of the people and their language, the beautiful land and the beautiful food. I toured for five and a half months in a theatre company of 28 English-speaking actors from all over the world. We traveled in groups of 3 or 4 and performed fairy tales and sketches to Italian school children to teach the English language. It was absolutely amazing. That job was the next Best Decision of My Life.

Now I am looking to continue that work, but in the United States. I believe the answer to the future is in the education of our children. And currently, we are having a very difficult time remembering the essentials of teaching and learning. I am now living in Hartford, Connecticut and working for Hartford Stage Company as a Resident Teaching Artist in the Education Department. The work is exactly what I have been looking for and it feels great to be doing something I love. I'm here until the end of August 2010 and then...

PHILOSOPHY

Just take it for what it is. Every day is a new day and any dream will do.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Basically my sister has done quite a bit of traveling in Europe and had some great experiences with couchsurfing. I've traveled through Italy and some of Germany, visiting a few other countries in between. I love sharing stories, hearing stories, and creating stories about traveling, the people you meet and the things you learn. I hope I can become an active member of this community!
