About Me

Hey there! My name is Ayra and I'm from Belo Horizonte, Brazil! I've always dreamed of travelling the world, and it wasn't until recently that I started checking my boxes! I've done the US and now I got my eyes in the old world!! I know this may sound a cliché, but I do love meeting new people. Teaching has made me a better communicator, and after over 10 years in the classroom, I think I've become better at meeting new people! I also love to go out to new places, have a beer, wine... eat good (not necessarily, and preferably not expensive) food. When I go somewhere new, I like to go to places the everyone goes, but I also like to go to hidden places that you wouldn't normally find in travel blogs. I love reading, books of all sorts! I hadn't read in a long time (I blame social media for that) but recently I've committed to read one chapter of a book everyday. So far, it's working! My current favorite book is "Sapiens - a brief history of humankind". If you like reading and you haven't read it, I suggest buying it, because it's amazing! I listen to music pretty much whenever I get a chance to. If I'm in the car, getting ready, or just want to relax I must have something playing! My taste is really eclectic, and it really depends on the day, the weather, my mood, or the season. I don't play any musical instrument, even though I'd love to. This is a little bit about me, but I have much more to share! Wanna get to know me and be my host? ;-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm going to honest here, and please read until the end! When looking for prices to stay in Europe, I was overwhelmed with how expensive it can be! The first thing that came to mind was couchsurfing, because it would be a great way to save money. However, I remembered the experience I had in the US. My friend and I met a guy through her couchsurfing, and what it was supposed to be a trip back to LA ended up being a ski trip to the mountains in California! I would've never gone there if it wasn't for this guy. And I like these things, I like to go to places I wouldn't normally think of, and that usually only locals are familiar with, and I think couchsurfing opens the opportunity for a cultural exchange that maybe I wouldn't have anywhere else.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I traveled by myself last year! Spent 20 days in the US, and it was wonderful!

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I teach English since I was 18 years old - so I'll be more than willing to help you with that! I can also teach some Portuguese, that way you won't starve if you decide to come to Brazil! Learn: I believe that everyone has something to teach - really! Even those who apparently don't think the same way we do! Sometimes the hardest thing is to just listen, but I've been working on that! Share: it takes two to share! Are you willing to give some too? Or, you just want to receive?

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook a bit! And I would love to try some new local recipe if you wanna teach me! =)
