About Me
Hi! I'm AZABE Raymond, and I’ve been working in the tourism industry since 2015. I’m passionate about connecting people, sharing stories, and helping others discover the beauty and culture of my country. I run my own tour company called KGL Safaris, where we specialize in crafting unique and authentic travel experiences.
I'm a big fan of meeting new people from around the world—whether you're a traveler passing through or someone who's curious about local life, I’m always up for a good conversation, a shared meal, or showing you around some hidden gems.
Whether you're into nature, culture, food, or just want to chill and exchange travel tales, I’d be happy to host or hang out!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I’m on Couchsurfing because I truly enjoy meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds. Travel has taught me that the best experiences often come from real human connections—not just places. Hosting or staying with someone is a great way to share stories, learn from each other, and create genuine friendships around the world.
As someone who works in tourism, I’ve seen how powerful travel can be when it’s personal and meaningful. Couchsurfing feels like an extension of that—more than just a place to stay, it’s a way to connect.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I’m a mix of rhythms and moods. I love Rwandan traditional music, Afrobeats, and anything with soul and a good groove—think Burna Boy, Sauti Sol, Stromae, or even a chill acoustic playlist on a rainy day. Music is my therapy and my celebration.
Movies: I enjoy films that make you feel something—whether it’s deep, funny, or just beautifully made. Some favorites: Titanic (of course), The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Black Panther, and anything by Christopher Nolan when I’m in the mood to have my mind blown.
Books: Books like “We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed with Our Families” by Philip Gourevitch, “Left to Tell” by Immaculée Ilibagiza, and “Shake Hands with the Devil” by Romeo Dallaire have offered me a deeper understanding of the history of the Genocide and its impact on the country.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I once trekked through the lush forests of Rwanda to see mountain gorillas in the wild. Standing just meters away from these gentle giants in their natural habitat was both humbling and surreal—it felt like looking into the soul of something ancient and wise. That moment reminded me how deeply connected we are to nature, and how important it is to protect what’s left of it. It was one of the most awe-inspiring, grounding experiences of my life
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: I can teach you some Kinyarwanda basics, traditional Rwandan dance moves (yes, I’ve got some hidden talent!), or how to make a mean cup of Rwandan coffee—from bean to brew. I also love storytelling and can share insights into Rwanda’s culture, history, and everyday life.
Learn: I’m curious about how people live, cook, celebrate, and see the world—so I’m always eager to learn new perspectives, local customs, and maybe a few phrases in your language. If you can teach me how to cook one of your favorite dishes or play an instrument, I’m in!
Share: I’ll bring good energy, deep conversations (or silly ones, depending on the mood), and maybe some Rwandan tea or snacks to share. Whether it’s laughter, music, or travel stories, I believe the best things in life are meant to be shared.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share great conversations, genuine curiosity, and stories from Rwanda—whether it's about our traditions, daily life, or a glimpse into the beauty of our hills and people. I'm happy to cook a Rwandan meal (yes, I can make isombe or ugali if you’re brave enough to try!), teach you a bit of Kinyarwanda, or simply hang out and exchange music, laughs, or ideas.
I'm tidy, respectful, and always grateful—so whether we’re sharing meals, deep talks, or just a quiet space, I’ll do my best to bring good energy to your home.
