About Me

I lived in Istanbul pretty much for most of my life. During my childhood, visiting our farmland in the Black Sea region for a couple of months and coming back for my schooling; you could say that I'm both a farm and a city boy. Although it has been over 10 years since I've been back to our farmland, I like to think I still keep that old "run around the woods, jump over the muddy puddles" attitude; given my obsession with camping and outdoor activities.

I'm a linguistics grad. I didn't exactly get what I wanted from universities, so I'm going into another. We'll see how that goes.

I like traveling. A lot. So much so that I spent the last 5 years of my life getting hired by cheap-labor jobs saving money and using all of it at once to travel to some odd parts of the planet.

I also have an undiminished obsession with compasses and would prefer if people call me Terran, rather than by my own name. Terran is just a nickname I came up for myself. As for the compasses, well, they're brilliant little gadgets that efficiently help you find your way around anywhere on the planet, which is more than enough for me to adore them, wouldn't you agree? No? Well, okay. I still like them though.

I suppose I got all the basics covered. I hope it was enough for anyone who's reading this to realize I am not a psychotic maniac and/or a serial killer or anything.

Feel free to ask me anything if you have any questions.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

No reason, in particular. I wouldn't mind a temporary roof over my head at times I am traveling.

Music, Movies, and Books

Basically, I'm game for anything that involves instrumental music and science-fiction storytelling.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas N. Adams & Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke, though... Nothing topped these two books for me yet.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Twice, I spent an entire day in the underground sewers of Kyiv, Ukraine -- exploring the tunnels and getting covered in numerous unknown goo -- with the semi-popular group of people who call themselves Diggers of the Underground.

I visited the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.

I've spent over a week in Iceland, traveling the island by thumb as I discover and visit any & all places that are most intriguing and preferably least touristy.

I volunteered for a wildlife conservation area in Southern Turkey, for the NGO I worked for a couple of months. We mainly worked for the preservation of green sea turtles' (Chelonia Mydas), an endangered species, nesting grounds. We also tagged adult members with a GPS beacon (without hurting them) to map their migrational routes, but that was more of a miscellaneous task.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a rambler. I mostly ramble, ramble and ramble about numerous scientific know-knows and fictional stories. Anything you may learn from that, I'd probably be happy to teach.

I also know how to make sushi! Provided you get me all the ingredients, I can definitely show you how to make them. It's more delicious than many people realize, in my opinion.

Last but not least, I'm an occasional painter. I paint pictures using none other than PC's notorious software MS Paint -- and if you can believe what people say, they're pretty good.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I rarely drink and I don't smoke. At times, I am told I speak rather too fast. So if you have no idea what I said if and when we have a conversation, just poke me and say that I need to repeat myself. Hey, it happens; I really cannot help it.

Well, I'm a constant-wanderer type, but I also value my relaxation quite a bit. But don't worry, I'm not going to complain about places "not so private" or "uncomfortable" or anything of sorts. You give me a cartoon bed and a roof over my head, I'd call it home. Besides, I sleep like a corpse anyway, so it really doesn't matter.
