To find something I'm passionate about
This is the part where I write about myself... hmm. Well I guess we can start with the basics:
Currently studying at the South African College of Music in Cape Town and enjoying myself :) Im doing a BMus (Bachelor in Music) majoring in Jazz Composition. Im trying my best not to let my degree take over my life, but its difficult when all you can do during term is eat, sleep and breathe II-V licks! (musician joke, sorry if you don't get it...)
Otherwise! Im the kind of person that can be the life of the party, but then Im also able to have a chilled night in, and talk/ listen to whats going on in life and its shenanigans.
To describe myself, I would use a lab. You know? Those big blonde dogs that are always smiling and looking around for something to do? Yep...
Things that define me? My double bass, music, the ocean and good company.
cliche but: carpe diem
life is meant to be lived, not endured
I also believe that maturity doesn't necessarily mean 'boring', it means you can recognise the appropriate times for childishness :)
I feel that everyone should search for their passion in life and do the most they can to achieve whatever goals they've set out for themselves!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've hosted several CSers from around the world, each gave me a new outlook on life/ showed me how its possible to live alternatively :)
Since Im still studying, Ive mainly hosted, but Id love to surf again! Sometimes I just search different countries and see what kind of cool people there are on CS! Weird, maybe... but its so much fun to see into the lives of some of the people that share the same passion for travel and culture!
any kinds of sport, eg surfing, waterpolo, lifesaving, etc... love the ocean, or any kind of large water area :P
i also enjoy a good night out on the town and being around friends with a good sense of humour. Any new experiences are welcome:)
Music is also a big part of my life. There is no feeling that compares to that rush you get when you're playing onstage with musicians that are just burning a hole in the ground! The excitement and adrenaline rush is unmatchable!
Im also what you would consider to call a 'FOODIE'. I live to eat, not eat to live. The idea of eating different foods and flavors etc is exciting and enticing! But, with that in mind, I might have to draw the line on some kinds of stuff... like eating spiders, or grasshoppers... I don't know why, but I just can't get my mind around that! I love to make healthy, feel good meals (not necessarily vegetarian!) and baking is also something that I enjoy. Its cool, just being in the kitchen with awesome music playing in the background, and you jamming out while you're whisking some eggs or something :P
Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: Alice in Wonderland, Yes Man, The Reader, The Accidental Husband, Avatar, Eat Pray Love, 007, Life of Pi, Waiting, any Tarantino movies... the list goes on...
Books: Spud, The Pact, The Book thief, The Hunger Games... I dont read that often but when I do, I cant seem to put the book down
Music: Since I am a budding musician, I enjoy pretty much everything... from Classical to Rock, Commercial to Dubstep (*love dubstep!!)... anything goes, but some more than others :) It all depends on what mood I'm in. BUT if you were to ask whats on my most played list: Jazz (all types), John Mayer, Soweto Kinch, Skrillex, Deadmau5, GRP Big Band, Oscar Peterson, Avishai Cohen
Im also a theatre lover, Buried Child by Sam Shepard, Waiting For Godot, Woza Albert!, I enjoy Lara Foot-Newtons productions quite a bit...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In Madagascar, my family and I saw a flock/school of flying fish just cruising through the water. It was awesome!
While we were there, we also saw a lot of tropical fish, a sea turtle, a few eels... The water was just so clear and warm!
Paddled next to a whale, swam with seals (not purposefully), Seen a few dolphins while out on the water...
Partied. Hard. A lot.
