Music, Movies, and Books
Brittany:
-Books-
Favorite Books that I read in 2005: Langston Hughes' The Ways of White Folks, Sherman Alexie's Ten Little Indians, Louis Menand's The Metaphysical Club, Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon and Sula, Amy Tan's The Kitchen God's Wife, Thackery's Vanity Fair, and Isabel Allende's Paula.
-Movies-
I watched all of Spike Lee's movies last summer (2004) and am a bit infatuated. If I had to choose three to watch right now, I would pick "Do The Right Thing", "Bamboozled", and "Crooklyn". I just finished watching David Lynch's Mulholland Drive with my partner last week. We really got into this movie, and had to watch it again to see if we could crack it. Lots of theories and good ideas, but no luck. The next movies that I would like to see are 2046 and Purple Butterfly (which, I believe, both feature Zhang Ziyi).
Ryan:
-Books-
Favorite book of 2004: Louis Menand's Metaphysical Club. 2005: Daniel Dennett's Darwin's Dangerous Idea. Honorable mention: Menand's American Studies, Wittgenstein's Tractatus.
-Movies-
Favorite movie of 2005: March of the Penguins. Honorable Mention: Mulholland Drive. Wants to rent: Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Pauly Shore is Dead.
