About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn about myself and where I'm from by taking a step back from both

ABOUT ME

My name's Chris, I'm a 25-year old from the middle of the US, but I've spent most of the last 6 years in Washington DC studying and working. Right now I'm taking a year off and traveling through Asia, the Middle East and Europe before I go back to the States and study law. I figure I might as well see the world before I'm chained to my desk for the next decade!

PHILOSOPHY

"if you're not getting better, you're getting worse." Always be honest with yourself and pierce the veils of illusion you put around your life and the things around you. You'll be happier in the long run.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

right now I'm backpacking, but when I return in the fall I'll be at Columbia in NYC, so there'll definitely be a couch available. After a couple months on the road I'm going to need a steady influx of traveler wisdom once I'm back in the States.

Interests

Reading, writing, the law, human rights, religion and spirituality, becoming a better and more full human being.

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything I write here will be outdated in a week or two. I'm constantly on the search for new creative ways of saying the same thing. I guess my perennial favorites would be:

Books: Jorge Luis Borges, Haruki Murakami, Zadie Smith, Khalil Gibran, Arundhati Roy

Music: Joao Gilberto, The Strokes, Blackalicious

Movies: Easy Rider, Midnight Cowboy

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Staring up at the stars out in the South Dakota badlands was incredible. The experience of being almost totally alone in a physical space is always a terrifying and yet incredibly moving experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

Gosh, such a hard question, what can I teach. I actually paid for my time on the road by teaching the American Law School Admissions Test, so I know a lot about logic.

That's boring, though. I know a lot about the Middle East! Also I have a million opinions on American politics, which I'm sure you are just *dying* to hear.

Countries I’ve Visited

India, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

United States
