About Me

I am a vocalist, composer and oud player. I sing with Kitka (www.kitka.org)

Though I have grown into a musician as my profession, I started as an adventurer in the mountain regions of Nepal, Peru and the Eastern United States, accompanying my parents on the expeditions for nonprofit work with environmental protection, education and sustainable development. I have climbed many mountains and gone on many excursions into the wilds, and as a musician I am always longing for that wilderness.

I love martial arts and dance, and I see these movement practices as intricately entwined with the music that I play and listen for. I experience music and movement as meditations that bring one to a place of exchanging ideas with the people and environment around them. It is this exchange that brings the most meaning into my practices in life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm attending four weeks of musical workshops on Crete this July/August. I have about 5 days before my workshops start in which I would love to experience life in Greece, make friends and share experiences.

Music, Movies, and Books

Balinese ceremonial singing and gamelan. Georgian polyphonic music, Mongolian long songs and throat singing. Sea shanties. Whatever I'm obsessively transcribing and learning at the time. Currently I am really interested in rebetika.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I free climbed a dangerous 300 meter cliff in the Grand Teton mountain range in Wyoming and survived.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love exchanging what I have learned in my life with my peers of all ages. I find there is so much to learn from every single experience and from every person I meet, and I hope that my presence also contributes to the experience of others.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my music and my experiences. I can also cook fairly well, and am so happy to help with chores. I can offer connections to my part of the world for future events when I could help by hosting visitors in my town.

Countries I’ve Visited

Costa Rica, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Peru, Scotland, Turkey

Countries I’ve Lived In

Indonesia, Nepal, United States
