About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Travel, write, photograph, meet, share, stumble...
ABOUT ME
Louisa and I have traveled a lot (60+ countries), both separately and together. We're both fit and active. We love life and new experiences.
PHILOSOPHY
Environmentalist, leftish politics, meditator, constant amazement (and gratitude) that we're here in the first place...
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Both hosting, and visiting with couchsurfers in other parts of the world.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We actually have couchsurfed more than it appears (under her name, Louisa Rogers), hosting in California as well as Mexico; and connecting with some very dear local folks in Turkey, Mexico, France and Italy. We have a very small apartment in Eureka, CA, not the best to host. But we spend several months of the year in our house in Guanajuato, Mexico, which is perfect to host couchsurfers for a night or two. (Two is our usual limit.)
Interests
Cycling, hiking, kayaking. Photography. Science, astronomy. I lead meditation groups, including at our local jail. My "day job" is writing a regular science/nature column for a California weekly paper--which keeps my brain constantly on the outlook for the weird and wonderful.

Music, Movies, and Books
Most recent great movie: Inception
Most recent great music experience: Shostakovich 6th symphony, Guanajuato Symphony
Most recent great book: Through the Language Glass (Guy Deutscher)
I'm a HUGE fan of The Great Courses, always have a new one on the go; currently: A Day's Read
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Climbing Cheop's pyramid...not getting mauled by a yak...overland trip from Turkey to Nepal...(more recently) leading meditation in a Mexican jail...running a sub-4 hour marathon...getting my science books published...
Teach, Learn, Share
"Soft-sitting" meditation. Unlike how meditation is usually "taught," I find the absolute bare-minimum of instruction ("sit quietly and see what happens") leads to the richest, most adventurous and most fun form of meditation.
