About Me

I am a keen history major who loves particularities and listening to them. I grew up in Ankara, studying at METU and am always saving money to travel whenever I can afford, for there is always a bit of wanderlust in me. When going around the globe, always having specific destinations on mind, I usually roam around the streets to breathe the area, talk to people, eat and experience. I love making friends on the road, incredibly amazing to me how many varieties of personalities around. That is exactly why I prefer Hostels instead of BnB when I can afford them.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because it is fascinating that there is always something thought-provoking to people when you sit and chat over a cup of Turkish coffee, or tea, or beer. When doing my studies, my particular area of interest is human solidarity across the interconnected globe, shown in records of merchants, adventurers, emperors, immigrants... The trope of traveling among humans have always peeled us off of our capes and robes back to human, no matter the reason or status quo. This is why I am excited about couchsurfing, as it is nothing but a new method of welcoming the passer-by in our contemporary world.

Music, Movies, and Books

My playlists love jazz! I love any type of jazz, I mean from Coltrane to Mulatu Astatke. I love boring films with long shots in which slowly moving camera reflects on desperately empty fields. Have always been a sucker for local cinema. In terms of literature, my preference would be in accordance with whatever is the hyperfixation of my mind, particularly those that delve into sociological realities and the cultures of indigenous peoples. Right now I'm reading Chernyshevsky.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am passionate about the full Turkish breakfast and would love to teach you how as well! I also claim to be a great cook with many traditional recipes memorised. I am no gatekeeper, believing in the ancient ways of sharing information about roads, cities, dishes, experiences. I find it interesting how what had been a daily affair to you or me might be an inspiring story to us. I am a teacher of Ancient Greek if that is somehow your thing as well.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Due to my severe addiction, I will always be carrying around Turkish coffee, both for cooking and gifting to people around the city. Also, I bring Turkish cigarettes on the road because if you smoke on foreign soil, it does not count.
