Music, Movies, and Books
Movies:I like just about anything that makes me think, laugh or smile - which, as one might guess, means I could list hundreds of titles. Here is a fraction: Amarcord, Central Station, Wedding Crashers, Superbad, anything directed by Ingmar Bergman, The Fisher King, The Third Man. Of course, the film High Fidelity gives us the perfect line (by way of Nick Hornby) for just this sort of public exhibition of personal tastes: "A while back... [we] agreed that what really matters is what you like, not what you are like. books, records, films -- these things matter!"
Musical artists such as Bowie, Prince, Virginia Rodriguez, U2, Dwight Yokum, The Police, Chris Isaac and Nina Simone have all spent time in my CD player. I am currently developing a fascination with Eva Cassidy.
John Irving and Salman Rushdie top the list of my favorite authors. As infuriating as Irving can sometime be, I can never put down his books (even when I would like to) . He and Rushdie both have the amazing Scheherazade-like ability to weave a story that keeps their audience enthralled. Lately, I have enjoyed a lot of crime fiction (Michael Connelly) and have enjoyed the fresh outlook of fiction crafted by non-Western suthors.
