About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Figure that whole "life" thing out...

ABOUT ME

I'm a Portlander born and raised (here I'm called a "unicorn" I guess because native Portlanders are hard to find?), which might attribute to my being easy-going...

I've taught ESL, driven an armored car, worked in a restaurant and behind a desk. We'll see what I'll get up to next.

I've done my share of traveling (but will never have enough) and I'd like to give back all the hospitality and good-naturedness that I've been shown during my times abroad.

I also seem to be infected with a not-so-uncommon love for Spain and Spanish...so if you also suffer from a common affliction, I'm here to assist.

PHILOSOPHY

"Do what you love. Anything else would be stupid." - Turns out this is easier said than done...

"Crazy people aren't so bloody boring!" - Still true.

Easy + Going = Happy Life

I love saying "yes". Well, sometimes it comes out "sure", or "sí", but either way the result is the same. Take a chance and you won't regret it!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Give and receive! The occasional CS get-togethers are fun times as well.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couchsurfed with Ryan, the coolest deaf dude you'll ever meet! The best part is we communicated the whole time by writing back and forth on our phones, skyping, and then the obligatory Star Wars bonding time. Rad.

Interests

Language, culture, people, travel, films and being silly. Oh, and bouldering!

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Anything Joss Whedon touches is gold. Also, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind, Garden State, Lost in Translation, Donnie Darko, Fight Club, Boondock Saints, Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog (that counts as a movie, right?) and anything with Zombies. And can one really go wrong with anything fantasy/sci-fi?

Music: Mars Volta, At The Drive In, A Perfect Circle, Rise Against, August Burns Red, Jawbreaker, The Pixies, Forward Russia, Massive Attack, Elliott Smith, Tom Petty, Steve Miller Band, Modest Mouse, Frank Sinatra, Tenacious D, The Dandy Warhols, Pink Martini, Brown Bird, Blind Pilot, and that barely skims the surface...

Books: Currently reading the Millenium series in Spanish (done!), next up, Harry Potter (also in Spanish)(and also done!). After reading La Sombra del Viento, it's time to move onto Carlos Ruiz Zafón's next in the series, El Juego del Ángel.

Oh, and duh, LOTR.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent the better half of nine hours searching for the perfect pair of glasses in Hong Kong. I finally found them, but then lost them while jumping off a waterfall in Mexico...then, donning an old pair, I promptly lost them as well while stand-up paddling in Hawaii. The next step will be losing an even older pair here in Chile...

Teach, Learn, Share

Want to learn some Castellano? Or English? Well I just might be able to help with both.
