I like running, swimming, shopping for food in a new place, and products people like to buy here, what kind of people take the bus? What are the bus drivers like?Why do people immigrate to this place? Why is this or that neighbourhood so popular? when and what do people eat? etc etc
So staying with locals seems an obvious way to start answering these questions :-)
