About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Why not add a mission statement:)
Outside the office, I coach a growing number of people in a few different areas as a non-expert. Exercise science, nutrition, meditation, and a few positive psychology strategies to improve their personal and work experiences. I'd like to build an international organization where REAL experts can teach from a credible platform.

RANDOM FACTS ABOUT ME

- Currently working for Bosch in Germany, just south of Stuttgart.
- Love the ocean: free diving, surfing, scuba.
- I like to build - boats, sauna, camper vans, fancy bike trailers (Santa BarbaraBikeTrailers.com is an old pet project), furniture, gadgets.

PHILOSOPHY

Momento mori, tempus fugit. (remember death, time flies)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

WHAT I LIKE MOST ABOUT COUCHSURFING.COM
I like connecting with people, and the Couchsurfing community is amazing. The prosocial / global mindset of Couchsurfers is a real outlier archetype. There are so many growth-oriented personalities who like to share and to learn in a way that I value.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm happy to host, Germany or Santa Barbara. I love to make it easy for people to drop into my local area in a non-hotel environment. I'm here to talk or to facilitate however I can.

We started my previous company WorldViz in the house that I ended up living in after we moved into a real office (www.worldviz.com). The house had always been an international student hub for travel, even during the founding stage. I took over the house, found this site, started hosting people, and I look forward to staying involved.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've stayed with many kinds of people while traveling around the world and it's been incredible. It's all been so positive.

Interests

Surfing, cycling, climbing, sailing, scuba, freediving, backpacking, exploring Santa Barbara's oceans in my little red boat, adventuring/exploring, van-life exploration of the US, long time Search and Rescue member in Santa Barbara County, MUSIC!, amateur musician (tenor sax, and total beginner on cello).

Music, Movies, and Books

My grandmother gave me a book, Age of Spiritual Machines - by Ray Kurzweil, all about convergent technologies, AI, etc. It put me on the path of engineering neural-prosthetics, helping people hear/see/move better, which led me to our VR/AR startup, WorldViz(.com). Changed my life:)

Music: I live and breath music. Brahms, Polo & Pan, Wagner, Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins, Underworld, DeadMou5, Foo Fighters, Nils Frahm, so many more than it makes sense to list. Electronic, classical, blue-grass, trad-jazz. Across genres, I appreciate strong musicianship and thoughtful attention to tone, timing, timbre, the message if spoken, and the intentional feelings these qualities evoke.

Movies? Yes. Planet Earth (BBC), Fifth Element, Fight Club, Life is Beautiful, The Grand B_____ Hotel (do you know it?;). I find inspiration in storylines that demonstrate grit, self-actualization, inalienable truths, abandoning the ego, silliness, tragedies from any area, and I'm a sucker for the classically romantic Boy-Meets-Girl stories regardless of the era or century or film genre in which the story unfolds😊

Teach, Learn, Share

Whatever I can learn from a host or guest, I'm in. Lately, my primary interest is Scandinavian culture, and sauna:) (I recently built one at my house)

- I can teach the "longevity" principles in Peter Attias's book, Outlive. (exercise principles, nutrition basics, some preventative maintenance for cardiac issues, and can only recommend screening for cancer (not much we can do there)).
- I can teach massage, professionally - I grew up doing it. (no need for hands-on demos, but it's an option)
- I can help people reframe their self perception and align with their goals (e.g., exercise, business)
- I can build and fix things. I've done this for a few hosts😄

What I Can Share with Hosts

We can chat about any of the above "Teach/Learn/Share" ideas and activities.
