Overview
About Me
I'm a recent college grad bumming it around the country for a gap year while I try and find a phd or master's program someplace that's warm and generous with the financial aid money. Just finished driving from DC to San Francisco with some friends, and now I’m exploring the Bay Area and golden coast!
Hobbies include hiking, bouldering, disc golf, ultimate frisbee, lacrosse (playing/officiating), reading lots of books and asking lots of silly questions.
Aspirations include cooking good food for hungry people and passing wholesome ideas
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
A friend is driving me to San Fransisco from Virginia and leaving me there! Adventure!
I'm trying to make my way from San Fran south to a working Buddhist monastery for a few weeks, then back north through all the wonderful bits of the west coast that my east coast upbringing has left me hungry for. Trip plan is still coming together, but goals include Big Sur, Sequoia Natl. Forest, sections of the PCT, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and Mammoth WY if I can make it that far.
I'm trying to visit some college campuses too to scope out where I might go back to school-- a lot of the UCs (UC Berkley, UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Boulder) and Stanford are all on my list.
I'm on the road July through Sept/Oct, or whenever it gets too cold to be camping or whenver I just call it quits make for the east coast on a greyhound bus. Its gonna be a lot of hiking, hitchhiking, bussing, sleeping outdoors, and working on farms for room and board, so a free couch here and there would go long way towards keeping me under budget, and I could make some new friends!

Music, Movies, and Books
Books- Big Kurt Vonnegut and Tom Robbins fan. Phillip K Dick gets an honorable mention-- I'm really into that kind of absurdist, quirky, yet anapologetically philosophical fiction. For denser texts I lean towards Wittgenstein, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Richard Rorty, Nietzsche, and Beauvior.
Movies- Most anything Kubrick-- current fav. movie might be "Paths of Glory"
Music- I'd love to tell you all about the important distinction between mass produced/cookie-cutter country and good southern americana. I'm talking bluegrass and some types of new rock-- Trampled by Turtles, Avett Brothers, Sturgill Simpson, etc. Rap is in my daily mix too: Chance, Kendrick, Biggy. All in all, open to any new music as long as its got some soul of some sort.
Teach, Learn, Share
I hope I'm near qualified to teach a range of subjects in philosophy, but if I was teaching well it wouldn’t be anything like a lecture. Conversations mean the both of us are learning, and teaching is never one-directional.
I'm already rearing to reccomend/loan out books.

Free books! Enthusiasm! Friendliness! Conversation! Cleanliness! I enjoy (to an extent) cleaning and sweeping and manual labor.
