About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To lose track of the Me in the We

ABOUT ME

I'm a pretty mellow and laid back type. I'm usually quite content in whatever situation and I have survived this long with the attitude that everything works out pretty well without too much effort on the planning side. So I always find myself at the last minute doing what I can with what I've got and committing to unexpected adventures with people I've just met. All my experience just crop up unexpectedly, as is the norm for most people I think.

I enjoy brewing beer, cooking, gardening, climbing trees, and freestyle rapping in the kitchen. Though I say I don't plan much, I occasionally get obsessed with projects. For example I built a wood fired bread oven in my backyard in highschool after baking bread about three times a week for a year.

My dream through college was to live on a self sustaining farm. Then I got a grant to travel and explore small farms and food producers around the world. Now my dream is to go back to school and keep a garden, farming small is a labor of love. Still, I continue to love the chance to pitch in beside the incredible folks keeping it real on the land.

If we surf together you'll find I'm open for anything, but I'm not much for late night parties anymore. I don't know what happened there, something about traveling solo... just want to be asleep at night.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Most of my couchsurfing has been done outside of the network. There was nothing cuter or less threatening than my girlfriend and I on a tandem bike traveling through California, we were doused in an outpouring of hospitality. People hosted us in different ways, from letting us camp on their lawn to begging us to stay in their home just one more night. I saw that goodwill multiplies itself, and I'm back on the road solo this time to see how far that principle will fly.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have had the privilege and total luck to blindly stumble upon both the Esalen Institute and Twin Oaks intentional community. Both of these places share deep roots in history that make them resilient to changing times and beliefs. They have proved to all that life in community is sustainable, healthy, practical, and deeply satisfying. Let their model inform us all.
