About Me

My partner Nat and I are currently (August to November 2025) cycling across Europe from the UK to Greece/Turkey.

We will generally be camping, but would love to meet some people from, and learn more about, all the countries we slowly pedal our way through!

I grew up in the British countryside, and am now based near Bristol in the UK, where Nat and I live on our traditional steel narrowboat named "Freedom" (we didn't choose the cheesy name!)

We are currently away from home and it's a bit difficult to host people on the boat, although we will try to do so where possible.

I've lived, worked and studied in several countries in my life, in Europe, Asia, the Caribbean and Africa, and have been shown a lot of generosity by strangers in the course of my travels. I would like to pay that kindness onward, and once our living situation makes it a bit easier, I would like to start hosting couchsurfers on a regular basis :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My Couchsurfing experiences have all been very sweet and life-affirming, from hangouts with a Spanish friend embedded in their local CS community to staying with a Honduran judge and her family along with an elderly Korean couple. Most recently I stayed with a couple of people in the Philippines, making friends I will stay in touch with, and met several others for Hangouts. I've learned a lot about how people live in different places, about the cultures and cuisines of those places... and have also met some lovely people!

Interests

Nature is probably the thing that makes me happiest! Photography has always been a hobby, and something I particularly enjoy exploring new places and landscapes. I cycle - and generally tinker with bikes - and run and walk a lot, and enjoy most outdoors activities, like trekking and climbing. I like playing squash and table-tennis and love rugby as a sport (Welsh roots), if not the laddy culture around it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Too many to list overall; recently, I have zoomed through Carlos Zafón's novels, Philip Pullman's Book of Dust series, and a couple by John Wyndham and Elif Shafak.
