I am Benedek Kállai, a boat enthusiast technical university student with strong 3D skills. Since I have overperformed the school requirements I could start my university studies earlier so I am in the last (fourth) year of Industrial Design Engineer BSC studies at Budapest Technical University.

My passions since my childhood are boats- especialy sailboats- and modeling.
I started to work around with modeling at age of 10, with self-planned ship models assembled by hand from scrap and plywood. As I improved my skills, I decided to become a yacht-, especially sail yacht designer. At the university, the wooden ship models were followed by virtual 3D models. At this point my interest opened to 3D modeling at general.

To gain experience and get a chance to became part of the yachting industry from a landlocked country, I participated the Boat International’s Young Designer of The Year competition two times. This year my work has qualified among the best six. With this, I am the first Hungarian finalist in the history of the award.

I am a member of Mensa.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My parents are on Couchsurfing since 2012, so basically i have been doing it for several years. I met with interesting people from around the world and I fall in love with this whole atmosphere. Also i can thank many of my language skills to conversations with couchsurfers.
Just like most of the youngsters i also want to travel to exciting places around the world, but according to my philosophy, i want to learn not only the place, but the people live there. I also believe that the most interesting places are only known by the locals, not by the tourinform.

I like huge variety of music, some examples: italian rap, Ennio Morricone, Imagine Dragons, Cubaian music, etc.
I am fan of the fantasy books and stories, so i like Lord of the Rings, Hobbit and Game of Thrones (i have read both of them)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've baceam the first hungarian finalist at Boat International’s Young Designer of The Year competition
I dived into water from a 18 meters high rock at Cala Varquez, Mallorca.
I've done a four day long hiking trip with a friend through the Balaton highlands sleeping out in the wild and in wine yards.
I've hitchiked to Trieste with a friend, and from there also trough the Istria peninsula.
