About Me

CURRENT MISSION

See the world - maybe even Turkmenistan

ABOUT ME

I completed a trip around the world in 2011 that would not have been possible without couchsurfing. Now I'm back home and ready to start hosting again. My work keeps me pretty busy, so unfortunately, I probably won't get to show you around as much as all my wonderful hosts overseas did, but I'll provide you a comfortable bed (or futon) and will help you as much as I can.

PHILOSOPHY

Nothing makes a story better like a little bit of embellishment.

Never lie to yourself.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In fall of 2005, I found myself at a pub in Edinburgh, Scotland. The people I was with were talking about something I didn't really care about and the scotch was expensive. Earlier that day, I had made it about half way up Arthur's Seat, this abrupt hill on the edge of town, but had to turn around because of gale force winds. So, as we're sitting there talking about stupid stuff and drinking overpriced whiskey, I turn to my friend, Stu, and asked "You want to go climb Arthur's Seat?" Mind you, it was about 10pm at this point and very dark. Not knowing what he was getting himself into, he said yes. 25% drunk, we headed for the base and started climbing. At some point, we lost the trail and had to beat our way through the brambles in order to get up to a ledge that we could follow to the peak. Man, once we hit that ledge, it was like sticking your face out of a car going full speed down the highway. We were crawling on our hands and knees to avoid getting knocked over. At the top, there is a triangular monument that we propped ourselves up against to form a shelter from the wind. It was deafening - but looking out over Edinburgh while my cheeks were flopping around in the wind was amazing.
Once we made our way back down and regained our sense of hearing, we zipped over to the nearest open store to get some nourishment. At this point, we were ready for anything, since there's nothing that will build an appetite like a harrowing, semi-drunk, late night mountain climbing. Lucky for us, that store just happened to sell deep fried mars bars. Win.
