To travel to as many interesting places as possible, while absorbing language, culture, local food and music, and anything particularly strange any place has to offer.

ABOUT ME

I'm a student at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York, and I've just finished up a year of studying in Italy. I study music, linguistics/languages, and various things having to do with gender and queer theory. I've got particular appreciations for things such as (in no particular order): avant-garde or very strange comedy, experimental and psychedelic music, minimalist composition, foraging, vegetarian/vegan food, long walks in the woods and acquiring (through any means) very particular looking pieces of clothing.

PHILOSOPHY

Put out good energy, help others whenever you can and keep an open mind - then good things will come back to you. Something like that.

Right now I'm surfing around Europe, but I would love to host when I am back in the states.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couchsurfing, in the few times that I have done it so far in Serbia, has taught me so much about basic human kindness. I have been able to experience so much through the lens of a local that I never would have found as a tourist, essentially the key to what has made my travels so unique and interesting.

I could go on forever about music, so here are just a few examples of my strange, variant tastes: Swans, Throbbing Gristle, Nick Cave, the Flaming Lips, the Knife, Madonna, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Dead Can Dance, Daft Punk, Marianne Faithfull, Tom Petty, Boris, Johnny Cash, Brian Eno, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Wooden Shjips, Howlin' Wolf, Björk, Lykke Li.....it goes on literally forever.

I like movies that have a really encapsulating vibe - Tarantino, David Lynch, Von Trier and Fincher are a few of my favorite directors. I'm always up for crude or weird comedy too - Tim and Eric, Monty Python, It's Always Sunny...

I like to read anything. Particularly interested in interesting LGBTQ stuff, gender history (wrote one of my favorite college papers on the evolution of gender roles in medieval Italy) or things relating to languages.

Traveled through the sprawling Serbian countryside without knowing a word of their language other than "thank you", and having to find ways to communicate without using words.
