About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Don't stop!

ABOUT ME

Hey, a bit about me: in May of 2012 I graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage with degrees in International Studies and German. Since then I have been traveling, 2 months in Turkey last summer and Germany since October 2012. I love getting to know people by learning their language. I am currently studying African Languages and Linguistics in Bayreuth, Germany. In October I will be back in Anchorage, ready to host!

PHILOSOPHY

Experience what you want to become.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am just starting with CS; I hope to meet some people this summer and eventually host people myself. I am willing to answer any questions people have about my past experiences, future plans, or specific knowledge and skills (within reason).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't had the chance to host or surf myself, but I have heard great things!

Interests

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a big fan of the show "Friends" and I am big into books: anything by David Sedaris, Hermann Hesse, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky. Also, travel writings! Especially books about living abroad. I think these stories are what first attracted me to the rest of the world outside of Alaska.
As far as music goes, here are some of my favorites, in no particular order: Voxtrot, Elton John, The National, Billy Joel, The Weepies, A. A. Bondy, Jim Croce, Iron & Wine, The Beatles, Gin Blossoms, etc.
Movies: I am a big fan of Tom Hanks! And I am also very appreciative of a good war movie or indie flick.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I taught a former Tibetan monk to read and write English well enough to pass his US citizenship test. And I learned a lot along the way!

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a background in construction (tile, carpet, building log cabins) and teaching (English and German). I have also studied a few other languages and I am always excited to learn more!

Anyone with experience WWOOFing, I'd love advice!

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Dominican Republic, France, Netherlands, Virgin Islands, British, Virgin Islands, U.S.

Countries I’ve Lived In

Germany, United States
