About Me

Hi - I'm Bethany (or Beth), and I'm currently visiting family in California, so not able to take guests or be a guest at the moment!

Most of my work has been in the field of forced migration, so I've worked directly or indirectly with people on the move.

I love my solo time, but also enjoy getting to know people on a deeper level. I feel most content when I am in a beautiful natural setting, especially near the ocean.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is a way for me to not only keep my travels going financially, but also meet more people and learn more deeply about the places I visit. It also resonates with me to both give and receive outside of a commercial economy, and I plan to return this generous hospitality one day when I have a "couch" of my own again :)

Music, Movies, and Books

It's hard to choose, but generally I like folk music, quirky movies, and all kinds of books...But here are a few favorites, AS OF RIGHT THIS SECOND:

Songs - Burried in Teeth by Mariee Sioux; Amari Szi Amari by Csokolom, The Jingle by bigott, Oom Sha La La by Haley Heynerickx, Breezeblocks by Alt-J, Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show
Movies - all Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli films, especially Princess Mononoke, Amelie, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, Hunt for the Wilderpeople
Books - Too difficult! LOTR, Soul of an Octopus, Milk and Honey (poetry), Exit West, nearly any collection of folk tales, fairy tales, mythology

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Always striving to keep a soft heart in a hard world...

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm happy to share what I know about: forced migration, U.S. politics (oof), Tae Kwon Do, dog-training, Arabic, English, my travels, and more! I enjoy cooking and especially baking, and of course sharing the results. I recently spent some time working on farms in Italy, so can share some of the practices I learned there as well.

What I Can Share with Hosts

See above :) And I would be very pleased to help with any and all chores, odd jobs, etc.!
