About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To take things just seriously enough while still having a good time
ABOUT ME
I'm a student at Brown University in Providence RI, USA... Though at the moment I am studying abroad for a semester in the wonderful city of Edinburgh, Scotland!
I'm in a pirate a Capella group called ARRR!!! that specializes in sea chanteys and Irish folk music (and I can generally be caught singing anytime, anyplace)
Although I've spent most of my life involved in athletics (swimming and water polo), I'm also in a literary society and am a total Victorian Literature nerd (and lit nerd in general. All forms, though lots of science fiction/fantasy).
I also love to bake (pastries, cookies, cakes, etc), though I'm not a great cook (want to learn though! I am now cooking all of my own meals... which is an adventure every time).
I am generally very enthusiastic, though chill as well. I almost always give people the benefit of the doubt, and am accepting of everyone/anyone's views (but please, don't try to push them on others. That's probably the only thing that can truly make me angry).
PHILOSOPHY
Take responsibility for your actions, even if it hurts. Try to have fun. And play nice with the other kids. When someone asks me my religious views, I generally say "fascinated", because although I am not at all religious or even spiritual, I believe firmly in respect (and love to study religion).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm spending the semester abroad, and would love to take this opportunity to meet as many awesome, interesting new people as possible, because for me, that's what studying abroad is all about.
Although I would love to host people, at this time I am bouncing between a shared dorm room in Rhode Island, a room in my parents house in California, and a dorm in Edinburgh, but as soon as I have a couch for people I will definitely be hosting!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
none yet (beyond staying on the couches of people I already knew)

Music, Movies, and Books
Boondock Saints, History Boys, V for Vendetta, Robin Hood Men in Tights, The Count of Monty Cristo, Aladdin. Irish Folk, Techno, Industrial, Alternative, a bit of this and that. Name of the Wind, Enders Game, The Count of Monty Cristo, most things by Tamora Pierce and David Eddings, and there are so many it would be impossible to name them all.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I have been face to face (or rather, my face to it's chest) with a full grown bull moose. (If I had wanted to be trampled, I could have reached out and touched it).
Epic beaches in Iceland. Black sand, and to the side of me, greenery sloping right down into the waves. Iceland is my fantasy land. And although I don't really believe in the idea of a physical blood heritage, something in me stirred when I went there.
Teach, Learn, Share
I will teach you a song! My voice is nothing fancy and I'm certainly not classically trained, but I can (and will) sing Irish folk songs or sea chanteys for you, and if you'd like, I will definitely endeavor to teach you one.
I'm also trying to learn the tin whistle in my spare time. Wish me luck (I don't even know how to read music. Yet)
