About Me

My name is Beth, I'm from the UK and have recently begun my solo travelling adventures. I love meeting new people, discovering new places and ideas, and eating new foods. I believe that collecting friends and memories is much more important than collecting stuff, and that money can only make you as happy as what you do with it.
I'm passionate about equality, human rights and health, and I believe that the more we mingle with people from different cultures, the more love, respect and peace there will be in the world, which can only be a good thing!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have been so lucky to meet some amazing friends on my travels so far, and I want to keep doing that, learning about more cultures and world views along the way. At the moment I'm not in a position to host, but in future I want to extend the same astonishing hospitality which has been shown to me!

Interests

Travel, Equality, Sexual Health, Scouting , Feminism, Yoga, Aerial Hoop

Music, Movies, and Books

My Kindle is a bit eclectic, but I'm a fan of humorous feminist writers (Caitlin Moran, Lena Dunham), as well as non-fiction on various equality and social justice issues (Everyday Sexism, The Spirit Level). I'm also a fan of a novel, and recently read the Harry Potter series for the first time, which obviously changed my life.
I have a nasty habit of falling asleep during movies, but can usually stay awake to watch episodes of a series; Orange Is The New Black and Girls are recent favourites.
I like folk music and songs I can sing along to, and am a little in love with Frank Turner. The matatus in Kenya have also sparked in me a love of R'n'B, Hip-Hop, and Rap, particularly from the 90s!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2010 and 2014 I was part of a team who were running an international camp for 7000 Scouts and Guides which, despite being knackering, was pretty great because of all the people I met and the new experiences and memories that we helped to create for the young people.

Teach, Learn, Share

My professional skills are mainly in Health Promotion (sexual health, drugs and alcohol) and I am looking to learn more about this area in different settings and with different populations. I also have pretty good camping and Scouting skills that I can share (how to put up tents, make a fire, read a map etc).

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am neat and tidy, pretty easy to get on with (so I'm told!) and can teach you the Queen's English!

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Jersey, Kenya, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Poland, Scotland, Wales

Countries I’ve Lived In

Kenya, United Kingdom
