Having been a volunteer with AFS Intercultural Exchange, I understand the challenges that come with being a stranger in a new and unfamiliar place. It can be daunting to navigate a different environment, but I have witnessed firsthand how individuals can seamlessly integrate and become not just friends, but an integral part of my extended family. The connections formed through such experiences are truly special and have enriched my life in ways I never could have imagined.

Throughout my life, I have been fortunate to experience many incredible moments, but one that truly stands out took place during my time in Italy. I found myself on the northern end of the Gulf of Naples, on the picturesque island of Ischia. While I was initially drawn to the island for its beautiful weather and vibrant atmosphere, it was the natural volcanic activity that truly captivated me.

I was amazed by the hot springs, volcanic mud, and other unique geological features that Ischia had to offer. One particular memory that remains etched in my mind is when my friend and I hiked to the bottom of a towering cliff and created our own natural jacuzzi using stones and mud. We marveled as the hot springs water from the mountain mixed with the cool Mediterranean sea, creating a truly unforgettable experience.

This moment of tranquility and natural beauty left a lasting impression on me, and serves as a reminder of the wonders that can be found in the world around us.

I finally got out of the closet and my family have been so supportive. I am a great listener and empathetic. As a guest I try to be accommodating to the host as a host I am trying to make feel my guest as comfortable as possible.
