I discovered couch surfing when I was travelling around Oz and the USA - best time ever! Haven't been on the road for a while but it's great to meet up with like-minded people, whether they are passing through sunny Watford or providing me with cheap holiday accommodation :-) My blog - www.geniustoburn.blogspot.com sums me up pretty well....

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I loved staying with people when I was travelling and have hosted quite a few times  - at one point my friends were just assuming that any new person they met was "one of Becky's strays"! I think my mum got a bit confused and thought she had to be a foster mother to the people who stayed, so they definitely got their favourite cereal for breakfast :-)

These days I live on a teeny narrow boat so I don't really have room to host, but I'm always up for being a friendly face to travellers far from home :-) If you want to drop by the canal is beautiful in all seasons. (I might be anyhere between Tring and Wembley but I tend to keep within ten or so miles of Watford.)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I did most of my travelling in 2005 when couchsurfing was all shiny and new, and my hosting in the year or so after that. So far all my experiences have been great. I am constantly blown away by how kind and welcoming people have been (to a complete stranger!) and hope to repay that to visitors - even if I can't provide a bed for the night I will try to show you around and help you feel at home!

Interests

Reading, writing, being outdoors (Watford isn't very rugged, so I can't really say that I "hike" but I do walk a lot). Live music, cool films, sitting outside coffee shops watching the world go by.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love movies in general but I do have a soft spot for the old classics - anything with Katharine Hepburn or Cary Grant. But then again I also like bad horror movies, action films staring Arnie / Sylvester / Bruce etc, and anything with dinosaurs / killer crocodiles. Other than that my favourite movie is probably the last one I watched.

I love ALL kinds of music except death metal (I have tried listenig to it to try and work out why other people like it, I just haven't figured it out yet.) My faves are Katzenjammer, Tune-yards, Kelly Clarkson and random acoustic covers.

I read all the time, I try to mix it up with fiction and non-fiction, I like reading books that teach me stuff. My favourite authors are probably C.S. Lewis, Daphne du Maurier, and Lionel Shriver. I also love Sweet Valley High :-)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was doing my jaunt around the world (well, South Africa, Australia, Thailand, the US and New Zealand) I followed in the footsteps of many backpackers before me and tried sky diving, bungee jumping, and swimming with sharks (only little ones!) I feel so lucky to have been to some beautiful places and hope to see many more.

Now I'm not quite so footloose and fancy free I've been trying out trapeze as a fun and challenging way to exercise. I've also taken part in a few medical trials. (Well, I think it's amazing to contribute to scientific research, my friends think I'm nuts.)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love cooking and could probably rustle up a meal in your kitchen (or bring you some cookies...)

I can also sew, so let me knnow if you have a hem that needs taking up, or a loose button!
