About Me

CURRENT MISSION

it seems like everywhere I go, the more I see, the less I know

ABOUT ME

Hmmm... so much to tell... where do I start?

From a big family - third of six. Must say that I love having so many brothers and sisters! Three of us are lucky enough to be redheads. The other three are less fortunate...

I have a great scar story - stitches on both sides of my right arm. Where a door handle went through. No broken bones, but still almost caused my father to pass out from the sight.

Which also reminds me of my in/famous car-accident story - when I hit a deer on the way home from a Chicago road trip. Unfortunately the deer didn't make it. The car didn't make it. But my friends and I were virtually unscathed. The coolest part is that the deer (who we hit from the front) landed on the backseat (through the rear windshield) Once I have a BSc, I'll attempt to understand that.

I love meeting new people and learning about new places, cultures, foods, lifestyles etc. I find traveling a little addictive, The more I travel, the more places I want to go.

I've realized that I am a very idealistic person. Somehow I always seem to land up volunteering here or there, believing in a new cause, fighting for a better world and the like.

I enjoy a good time - dancing, friends, people, chilling, talking.

Love the sun and sunshine!!!

Also love, love, love nature. Grew up with frequent trips to the Kruger (SA Safari)

Technology - now there's a love/hate relationship. It's awesome just how much information is readily available at our fingertips. How easy life has become in a way. But it makes the world a lot smaller. Removes some of the mystery. And maybe detracts from the simple life.

Wow - there really is a lot to say. Feel free to ask questions. And better yet, hopefully we'll meet soon, somewhere and then we can learn for ourselves.

PHILOSOPHY

Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a serious lack of imagination
(I saw this attributed to Oscar Wilde and think it's a great philosophy)

But the real philosophy is this simple:
ACTS OF GOODNESS AND KINDNESS
That's it - it's not about moving mountains, it's the simple smile, the little details. That's what makes all the difference.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couch-surfed for years without knowing it or being a member of this site. That's how I tended to travel - meeting people, staying with them, inviting myself to strangers etc.
Since joining the official CS, I have had the opportunity to surf Lauri and Fede's couch in Madrid.
Look forward to meeting many new people through this!

Music, Movies, and Books

Some choice songs:
On My Own - Les Miserables
Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve
I'm Yours - Jason Mraz
Bubbly - Colbie Callait

House is my favorite TV show (at least the earlier seasons)

Cry the Beloved Country by Alan Paton is probably my favorite book. But usually I read Jeffery Archer, David Baldacci, Harlan Coben, Nelson Demille, Daniel Silva and the like...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I remember sitting in front of the TV in 1994 watching the Inauguration of President Nelson Mandela. We taped it. Yes on video cassette in a VCR. It was quite a boring ceremony, but my mother 'made us watch it' saying "You are witnessing history" I am happy I was able to appreciate it a little then. And now, as I grow older and wiser, appreciate even more the tremendous transition that took place and the strides taken to a better world,

Teach, Learn, Share

In life u need one thing: the ability to realize that shit happens, u step in it, accept it, get the fuck over it AND KEEP WALKING
I came across it and I think it's a great saying.
But in truth, when you put on a pair of rosy-tinted glasses and take a look around, you'll be amazed to see how much good there is. I see people who begin movements or organizations and I think 'Wow! That's so obvious and crucial. The need is so apparent. How didn't anyone think of it before?' There are so many wonderful causes and people out there.
