Über mich

CURRENT MISSION

Seeing the sublime and the beautiful in wherever I go and whoever I meet. Also, chasing good times like a green T-Rex stomping a cabin.

ABOUT ME

I'm just a laid back guy who has a great time doing pretty much anything. I love meeting people and talking, or just sitting back and reading. One of my best trips has been a forty hour train ride with a group of mates reading scifi novels, watching the scenery, listening to some Everything But the Girl. Good times, great classic hits.

I don't really think about what I say so occasionally I'll come out with something that doesn't quite make sense but if you just look at me oddly, pause just long enough to signify you're taken aback but not long enough to make it awkward*, and then continue with the conversation everything should be just dandy.

*Although it is my belief there is no such thing as an awkward silence, only comfortable ones.

I also love DOING things, like going for walks or visiting museums or paddling kayaks. I'm not very talented at said things but I'll always have a go.

PHILOSOPHY

If you've read Dinosaur Comics, it's pretty close to what T-Rex is getting at. If you haven't, then I don't really want to stay with you?

Just kidding, I'd definitely love to stay with you, because my philosophy is that I love life and love everyone (as the saying goes, haters be hating, so why hate them? Even if they be hating webcomics). As I said before, I'm laid back, don't get offended easily and am up for trying pretty much anything not likely to permanently disable me or put me in jail.

I also like beer in pitchers from a pub more than bottles or pints (although those are good too, of course). Probably shouldn't have to explain why.

Most of all, I'd like to hear YOUR philosophy.

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been a member of the website for a while but am yet to do anything. I've never actually surfed but hope to change that this Christmas!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So I've never couchsurfed? I hear it's pretty great though, so I'm going to give it a try.

Interessen

What doesn't interest me? Well, a couple of things, actually, like Monster Trucks and WWF and, to the chagrin of all my friends, the Beatles. Really though I love to get outdoors (strictly amateur, mind, I have no real qualifications for anything and just like a bit of a hike), or else have a few beers at the local pub, or else sit back and watch the sport of your choice (ice hockey and rugby are my favorites right now).

Or maybe I'll have a bit of a dance, or go to a museum (history is a particular favorite of mine) or go see a band.

But there's so much in the world I haven't really tried, so I'm interested in all that stuff as well.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

Music, pretty varied. I love electropop like Hot Chip and Cut Copy. Indie rock is cool, and I've even started to get into rap and whatnot recently. Basically I like to think that I've got way more music cred than I actually do.

Books I'll read pretty much anything, but at the moment I'm loving science fiction and history. Anything literary is likely to set my bullshit detector ringing but I just ignore it and read the book anyway.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Angkor Wat. It's touristy, it's poor, it's commercialized ... but man, you have to see this place. You just have to. Something about ruins, decayed, completely different to how they were meant to be seen, but still THERE, still visited, still so amazingly impressive ...

it's pretty great.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

Pretty interesting. Actually, OK, I love this concept. I'm not sure how much I have to share personally though. I'm pretty good at editing papers? I debate?

Usually I talk about grand theories and knowledge on a wholly impractical level for the sake of talking about them, fleshing out their implications in an ideal world just as thought experiments.

That last paragraph probably didn't make sense. Basically I'm keen to learn about everything and anything and can probably only offer an inquiring mind in return. Although I'm told my history knowledge is pretty sound.

I want to learn everything I can. I'm so keen for knowledge and experience.
