Overview
About Me
Hi, I’m Billy, I’m 24 years old and I’m from the north of England. I’m currently in my final year studying medicine at university in Leeds, but looking to travel over the summer.
I love being outdoors, exploring new places and making new friends, and a combination is even better. Cooking is a real hobby of mine, and is always a fun way to make new friends.
I also love learning languages, and say that they’re my passion outside of studying. I’d say my Italian and Spanish are close to fluent, while my French could do with some work. I did Russian at school, but that’s fallen off a lot!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I’m here because I want to travel, but I want to see real places, not just hostels and as a student it’s hard to afford as well. Meeting like-minded people, or even nice people with different views who challenge you, is what it’s all about!
Interests
I love art, cooking, playing sport, or anything that gets me active with friends.
- music
- scuba diving
- hockey
- medicine

Music, Movies, and Books
I really love all kinds of music, but particularly Indie/Rock, Jazz, Salsa and West African music with the Kora. I also love swapping recommendations with people, so am always keen for suggestions.
In terms of films, my Letterboxd top four is probably: La Haine, City of God, Les Intouchables, and About Time.
I really enjoy reading, especially when travelling, as it can be so hard to find the time when studying. Recent favourites of mine are I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, by Maya Angelou; A Month In Siena by Hisham Matar; or Before Night Falls by Reinaldo Arenas.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I would say Madagascar, where I spent 3 months last year. It’s a completely different culture and all the wildlife was incredible. I also went to Senegal and spent half a year or so in South America, so am always happy to trade stories.
Teach, Learn, Share
I’d be happy to teach whatever people might want to learn if I can! I imagine things like my sister’s great pesto recipe or bits of languages like Italian possibly?
I’d love to improve my Spanish and French, and share some new music.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I’d like to share some of our stories, some great music and maybe some of our favourite recipes too. If people might be able to show me around their neighbourhood I’d love that too, but completely understand that you might be busy.
