Hello, my name is Birgit and I am 21 years old. I was born and raised in the Netherlands, where I am currently studying Liberal Arts and Sciences. I am passionate about travelling and especially about taking a non-touristic approach and getting to know a different culture. In my opinion, an open mind paves the road to some amazing experiences and people which would otherwise remain unnoticed.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

After my exchange year in a host family in Nebraska, USA, I have learned that there is no better way to learn about a culture then to fully drown yourself into it. By meeting the locals of a community, you get to know so many life stories, perspectives, and cultural differences. I have learned how valuable it is to get to know strangers, and especially those from different countries, and I believe that couchsurfing provides the perfect way to do so.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Move to the United States to spend a year as an exchange student at High School. This was my first experience of travelling alone and broadened my world in so many ways.

Teach, Learn, Share

I believe everyone has a story to share of their own. Travelling makes you notice those people that you would normally pass by, even though they would be very interesting to listen to. Some have gone on great adventures, others can talk about their home town or family, and I think the most important thing is to give everyone a chance to tell their story and to learn from their experiences.
