CURRENT MISSION

To become friends with as many like-minded people as possible. We want to learn about other cultures and traditions. We also want to prove to others that people around the world are generally kind and trustworthy.

ABOUT ME

We are a couple of teachers who love to travel. We are currently in the process of saving up for another around the world trip which will hopefully start in June 2010. Blake and I have created a website at http://www.backpackerdaily.com to illustrate our savings process and share travel articles, stories, pictures, and videos.

So, essentially, we are leaving our teaching jobs and we will be traveling around the world for at least a year. We are thinking about traveling until we find a really cool place - then we'd stop to work for a while. If we do this, who knows how long we'll be gone. We are also interested in teaching ESL and any cheap volunteer opportunities.

We did a short RTW trip in 2005, and we thought we'd be cured of the travel bug but it didn't go away.

Blake and I love to meet other people who are down-to-earth and easy-going. We love to laugh and have a good time.

PHILOSOPHY

You don't have to be trapped by society. Right now, it seems like the "normal" thing for us to do is have a secure job, buy a house, a car, a 50 inch flat screen television, and soon enough get a dog and have a couple of kids. That is what late 20-somethings are doing here, in Atlanta. Meanwhile, if we did half of those things, we would be drowning in debt and we'd probably never be able to see half the things we want to see in the world. When we tell these sorts of people about our current plan to drop everything and leave the U.S. to travel for an undetermined amount of time, they look at us like we're crazy because they can't fathom quitting a job in an economic recession. Then, they become envious, as if they couldn't do the same. Well, I suppose they can't do it so easily if they are tied to a whole bunch of financial obligations.

We want a life free from all of the "clutter" that most people think they need to survive. We want to fill our lives with relationships and experiences...not "stuff." And we want to prove that despite media reports, people in the world are generally good people.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well, Blake and I are new at the CS scene. We would love to host others and share traditions. Blake and I love to cook, so if you stay with us...or let us stay with you...we would definitely be able to cook you a meal or two.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hopefully my response to this question will change soon. We haven't yet had any CouchSurfing experiences yet, but we really want to participate in this community. We have a couch, a futon, and a blow-up matress that people can use if they stay at our condo. Blake and I will be CSing our way around the world starting in June, so we'd like to host as much as we can before that.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

We took a RTW trip in June 2005. It only lasted 6 months, and we went to Spain, Italy, India, Thailand, and Singapore. That was our first 24-hour flight. The longest bus ride that we took was Mumbai to Udaipur, I believe.

We have seen amazing beaches in Thailand, beautiful mountains in the Dolomites in Northern Italy, we have seen plenty of odd things in India that are quite memorable, such as a woman who was essentially a head.

We have plenty of ironic stories to tell and tons of fantastic memories to share.
