ABOUT ME

I love the ocean, I'm passionate about conservation, I would live underwater if I could, and most of all I love marine life.

My friends call me YY (my initials), and in Maori 'wai wai' means 'to be immersed in liquid' - and that's me!

I'm also a vegetarian and atheist (although I enjoy the occasional conversation about religion). I like walking around barefoot. My favourite tropical island is Lizard Island. I think humans should not blame sharks for shark attacks - the ocean is their domain and we are merely visitors (and quite often intruders).

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm about to travel for a few months and therefore do not have a couch available. However, I love the idea of Couch Surfing and would love to help out when I return from my travels!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted my first couch surfer, Bruno, last year and it was a lovely experience. I will definitely continue hosting when I return from my travels!
I also surfed on Markus' couch in Zurich in June 2011 for the first time, and it was a wonderful experience.

Interessen

SCUBA diving, marine conservation, travelling (even though I don't have the money for much travelling at the moment), hiking, windsurfing, kayaking, swimming, yoga (not the whole 'third eye' stuff though), salsa (the dance and the sauce!), meeting and learning from people, interesting conversations, ideas.

I love reading! Douglas Adams is a personal favourite. Others include Ian M. Banks, Kurt Vonnegut, Richard Dawkins, Phillip Pullman, Cornelia Funke (the Inkheart series), Stephen King (the Dark Tower series), Saki, Oscar Wilde, Jane Austen, Haruki Murakami... to list a few!

Movies: Le Grande Bleu, The Age of Stupid, The Dark Knight, etc.

Music: Frou Frou, Morcheeba, Lisa Mitchell, The Cranberries, The Whitlams, Gotan Project, etc.
