About Me

Currently living in Takoma Park, MD, a little hippie town on the outskirts of DC. I'm working at a local food start-up company. We're working to create a more robust local/regional food distribution system to compete with large agricultural distribution companies. In my free-time, I'm interested in going to protests (although slowly losing hope in that) and taking classes in the aerial arts (aerial silks, pole-dancing, and I've done some aerial hoop/lyra before). I'm also pagan and part of a few progressive social-justice witchy groups in the DC area. I live with one of my witchy roommates, their dog, and my adorable cat Clyde.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Old profile: I found out about Couchsurfing through my roommate, Kengo. He has been hosting guests at our house in Washington, DC. As a result I've been learning about hosting as well. It has been a great experience to learn about people from all over the world. There are a lot of problems going on all over the world, so I'm grateful that there are people out there that want to understand other people, parts of the worlds, and cultures. I hope that we can make a better world together.

New profile:

Still living in the DC area! Kengo has moved to the wild west to be an ecological progressive cowboy. :)

Music, Movies, and Books

There is too much music to list! It's hard for me to answer that question because I like all kinds of music. Rock 'n Roll, oldies, punk music, metal, folk music, pop music, etc. I've noticed that I'm most attracted to really fast, dramatic, and emotional music, like Panic! At the Disco. I also really like gothic music that is kind of haunting, like Hungry Lucy. I only really dislike country pop music. I'm from the deep south in the USA, so that music is everywhere there. But mostly just the pop country music.

Movies: I love psychological thrillers and movies that make me think. I usually fall asleep during action movies unless there is some kind of sub-plot going on with the characters. I like some horror movies, but usually more supernatural things. I'm not a big fan of romantic comedy movies if they are predictable - if I can tell what will happen in the movie before I see it, I usually don't want to see it. My favorite movie lately is "Get Out" which is a bit of horror, psychological thriller, and is also about race in the United States. Great movie!

Books: I tend to read a lot of fantasy for fiction. Harry Potter series, but also "American Gods" and other books by Neil Gaiman. Also the "Iron Druid" series by Kevin Hearne.

For non-fiction, I like to read about social issues or psychology, or about paganism and mythology. Some that come to mind: "The Body Keeps the Score" by Bessel Van der Kolk. "The New Jim Crow" by Michelle Alexander. "Diet for a Hot Planet" by Anna Lappe.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I helped start a farmers market in my college town where there wasn't one before. Well, I thought it was pretty amazing anyway!

What I Can Share with Hosts

For some reason people are always asking me questions about paganism and witchcraft, so I love giving 101 lessons to people about that (curiosity about witchcraft is a welcome response from growing up in the deep south and being seen as a devil-worshipper). I love to talk to people about social issues and politics, especially from my perspective, being from the deep south (Jackson, MS and then to the New Orleans area) but also being really progressive. I also love talking to people about the aerial arts. And sharing recipes!
