ABOUT ME

I'm an easy going guy that loves to travel, but can't stand the tourist traps that plague my home state of Florida. Why would someone choose to eat at a chain restaurant franchise when the local Grandma's Kitchen will be the best pulled pork you've ever tasted? I think the answer lies in the obscurity of local restaurants. I'm glad I've found couchsurfing.com, as I hope that this means that I can visit places and enjoy local joints.

I traveled in the US Marine Corps for a time and found the best lemon chicken I've ever tasted in Okinawa, JP. Sadly, on my second trip, I couldn't find it again, and few of the Okinawans cared to help me find it. I found myself looking for gems just off the beaten path everywhere we went and listening to the closest barfly to enjoy their stories, or to share some of my own.

I enjoy drinking dark stouts, single and double malt whiskeys, aromatic wines, and warm tasty coffee, all over a game of chess. My general topics of interest encompass science, politics, cultural differences and similarities, music (!!), mathematics, fashion, history, geography, and navel lint musings. Have you ever thought about counting to 31 on one hand? Just this morning I had to do it just to prove to myself that I could.

I'm a caring person, but also a practical joker. I've little-to-no boundaries when it comes to humor, though I respect those of others. I've been described as the guy who will give you the shirt off his back, then make fun of you for wearing such ridiculous attire. I love to have good times, and revel in adversity. Really, we're all here to emote to each other. It truly is the human condition.

For now, I extend my dinner table for a dinner at my place, but I'm hesitant to accept hosting requests. Perhaps after getting to know other surfers my wife and I will change our hesitations.
