About Me

Hi I'm a field organizer, it's essentially professional activism. I vowed to dedicate my life to doing as much good in the world as possible when I was 12 years old, and have been fulfilling that. Recently, I've moved from Illinois to Standing Rock to Oregon and then central California (the bad area lol). My next job is in Ann Arbor.

I'm passionate about empowering local regular working class folks so they can solve their problems, mostly by canvassing with a clipboard, getting signatures, recruiting and building a working relationship to hold each other accountable and make our campaign more effective with protests, actions, and events. I grew up extremely poor and homeless at times, raised by a very political mother, and also in a Christian school, which all came together to build my dedication. My biggest issue area is increasing voter turnout, but also immigration reform since I have undocumented family and friends, as well as getting money out of politics.

I live a pretty public life! Check out my Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/brandon.hudspeth.7 or Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/brandonhudspeth

Otherwise I love to cook - primarily tacos, spicy red sauce pasta, pizza, and sushi.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm starting with For our Future (a labor/union group for increasing voter turnout) on May 29th, and am currently in the process of finding housing while also waiting for my first paycheck in mid-June, which is a struggle. I plan on paying it forward once I get an apartment.

Standing Rock and the Rainbow Family really changed my perspective on society and hospitality, sharing a tipi with 4 others in the frigid North Dakota winter. Or camping out in the Sequoia National Forest with hippies, nomads, and alternative lifestyle friends, living communally for a couple weeks. Coming out of that I've preferred to share space with others and live the nomad life here and there.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music- I actually don't listen to much music, and am addicted to podcasts and NPR instead! But tame impala, grouplove, vampire weekend, two door cinema club, shaky graves, young the Giant are one side of my interests, as well as Kendrick Lamar, Chase, Kanye,
Eric sweatshirt. Also most classical except for Bach and Beethoven.

Books- ASOIAF, Enders game, life of Pi, the secret magic of tidying up, Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky, This Changes Everything + No is Not Enough (Naomi Klein), This Is An Uprising: How Nonviolent Revolt is Shaping the 21st Century, How David Sometimes Wins: Cesar Chavez and the United Farmworkers Movement,

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Organized hundreds of students to descend on the Illinois State Capitol, for a protest and lobby day, which got covered by the Daily Show. We were fighting for low income MAP grants that were defunded. As of the recent budget resolution this July, MAP grants had increased funding while higher education was cut - so I guess we won.

Got about 4 of those under my belt at this point.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share political consulting knowledge. Anything you're curious about I can give close to an expert political opinion on. I used to compete in the collegiate debate circuit in Parli pro and Congressional, as well as Model UN and have won tons of awards. I've had to argue both sides heavily so I don't do the tribal angry politics at all.

What I Can Share with Hosts

How to cook some killer food.

How to organize and strategize around politics.
