About Me

Hi! I’m Brandy 😊

I’m 21 years old and originally from Shanghai, China. I’m about to start my PhD journey, and I’m currently an exchange student living in Paris. My academic background is in Artificial Intelligence, but outside of research, I enjoy a much more relaxed lifestyle.

In my free time, I like reading literature, playing the piano, and staying active through sports such as table tennis and diving. Over the past few years, I’ve had the chance to visit more than ten countries for study, academic presentations, and travel. What impressed me most was not just the places themselves, but the warmth, openness, and kindness of people from different cultures. Even when I was quite young, I always felt welcomed.

For me, the most meaningful part of living in different countries is the human connection. That’s why, when I’m able to, I’m happy to share my space and exchange stories and experiences with others. And when I travel, I also hope to find places where I can be welcomed in the same spirit.

To be honest, my English is not perfectly fluent, but it’s absolutely fine for daily communication, and I’m always happy to learn and improve through conversations:)

In Paris, I enjoy walking along the Seine, spending time in cafés or quiet bars, and visiting museums. I currently live in the southwest of Paris, about 20 minutes by metro from the Eiffel Tower. My apartment has two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a private bathroom, and one bedroom is currently available. You’re very welcome to stay and share some beautiful moments in Paris together!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m on Couchsurfing because I love real cultural exchange and meeting people beyond the tourist experience. I’ve been warmly welcomed in different countries while traveling, and those experiences meant a lot to me.

That’s why I’m happy to host when I can — and I also hope to be a guest when I travel. For me, Couchsurfing is about sharing, trust, and mutual respect, not just a place to stay.

Whether it’s chatting over coffee, walking around the city, or simply sharing everyday moments, I truly enjoy these simple connections with people from different backgrounds.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music-wise, I mostly listen to jazz and easy listening, with piano music taking up a big part of my playlist. I also enjoy country folk and pop songs — it really depends on the mood.

For books, I’ve been reading works by French authors and some philosophers recently. To be honest, many of them are quite challenging and sometimes confusing, but I still enjoy the process of thinking and getting lost in the ideas.

When it comes to movies, I’m especially into Eastern European art short films. They’re usually quiet and subtle, but often leave a strong impression long after watching.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing thing I’ve done is pushing myself into different environments. I’ve gone scuba diving down to 10 meters, crossed snowy mountains, and hiked alone through grasslands and deserts. These experiences taught me how to stay calm, independent, and curious when facing the unknown.

Teach, Learn, Share

I’ve had the chance to take part in volunteer teaching projects in rural and underprivileged areas three times, where I mainly taught children about life education, including topics like death education and sex education. These experiences deeply shaped how I see learning, empathy, and responsibility.

I’ve also lived for a period of time in a temple, sharing daily life with local people and experiencing a very different rhythm of living. I’ve had many experiences like these, and I’m always happy to share the stories, reflections, and lessons I’ve learned along the way.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I’m always happy to share good conversations, random life stories, and laughs. I’m also learning how to cook recently, so I’d love to share whatever dishes I manage to make — successful or not 😄
