About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Meet you!

ABOUT ME

I'm Mat. Despite my lack of soccer and samba skills (which does not prevent me from having a great time at any party, except Carnival), I am a proud Brazilian!

My friends tell me that my sense of humor is a bit acidic, ''bitter as lemmon''. But they soon realize that almost everytime I add some sugar and make it a lemonade (or depending on the mood I add cachaca and make it a caipirinha).

I am a music freak. I'm vegetarian. I love swimming, running and yoga. I'm a bunch of other things, too.

After a few minutes talking, I could honestly trust you my life. I'm quite skeptical, though.

I study Engineering and Economics in MA. I lived in Europe for as an exchange student in Germany between 2013 and 2014 (just got back!). I am crazy about foreign languages. Friends say that I am kind and sensitive to other people's feelings (yeah, my friends can be that nice and quite of a brown noser sometimes) and also that I am pretty straigh-forward. Sometimes, too straight-forward. Maybe, they just don't get that euphemism is not my forte.

When possible, I go out of my way to help someone. A smoother life is a happier life. Yes, I'm flexible, and I'll try my very best to make your or my stay the most amusing and unique experience for both of us.

I have volunteered teaching 7 and 8 year old kids in China. My best friend is 60 years old. People can get along. I do not believe in age gaps. Everyone has something to teach, and people can get along well regardless of their date of birth.

"I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move."€œ Robert Louis Stevenson. Travelling is quite an essential part who I am.

I will most certainly miss you when either one of us leave.

PHILOSOPHY

Do good; Be meaningful; Happiness is more about giving than reciving; Know how to do at least one thing really damn well; have at least one good laugh everyday

"Tourists don't know where they've been, travelers don' know where they're going." Paul Theroux

"“Once you have traveled, the voyage never ends, but is played out over and over again in the quiestest chambers. The mind can never break off from the journey." Pat Conroy

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Surfing, hosting and travelling with CSers. They are the best. Always have a blast.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couchsurfed thoughout China, from North to South. Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Suzhou, Shenzhen, Guilin, Guangzhou,... Macau, Hong Kong. I have also couchsurfed in several countries in Europe and UK.

Not a single bad experience! I had an amazing time and I feel greatly blessed for having met so many awesome people!

Interests

I love getting to know the people, culture, and language of the places I go. I could honestly spend hours talking about it, trying to understand their habits and why they are the way they are. The physical place becomes somewhat unimportant once I understand the people. That's when I feel that I've truly been somewhere.

I am a music freak, I love photography and I cook whenever I find some free time.

If you wanna have a conversation about languages, grammar, literature, verbal tenses and all that good stuff, I am your guy. I keep convincing my Portuguese friends that we, Brazilians, speak better Portuguese.
