About Me

I've been living in France for the last six years, working and going to school. At the moment, I live in Strasbourg but attend classes in Paris for my master's at l'École de Hautes Études.

I love to cook and will get up early in the morning to have the kitchen to myself and start on making something I've been thinking about the night before.

I try to keep my travel plans local: places in Alsace, weekends on the train and hitch-hiking around.

My family comes from central Texas, what we call the Hill Country, where my father in his retirement has become a full-time cattle rancher. My experiences on the ranch have brought me closer to Nature and afforded me some practical insights into ecology.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

While in France, I've tried to live in Paris full-time, first for an office job and later as a teacher. It wasn't easy. Being from the country I time and again I have a hard to adjust to a full-time life in Paris. I love the city and the opportunities in education and culture that it has to offer but struggle with the daily grind.

For that reason I would like to spend a few days in Paris every week for my master's studies in history, two or three, before returning to Strasbourg. This is the best way I've found I can work as it relates both to my chosen field of history and my general well-being.

I am looking for someone interested in hosting regularly. I am completely open to the idea of camping and I have the necessary camping equipment to stay outside, even in the dead of winter.

Interests

Cooking is a big part of my life, as I've said. I'm also passionate about history, understanding how we got here and where we came from, particularly the sort of history that subverts dogmatic notions and widely accepted truths. Language and writing have to be included somewhere in this list.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've hitch-hiked throughout France and never had a bad experience to speak of. I find the best in other people when I put myself in a sort of vulnerable position.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know my way around a kitchen. I'm open to learning, as well as teaching.
