About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to create meaning, within the context of meaninglessness

ABOUT ME

I am overly dependent on technology and have an unhealthy relationship with material possessions and first world comforts.
As an aviation production control manager, for the U.S. military, I track, facilitate, and prioritize aviation maintenance operations. Apart from my aviation Duties, I also spend 15 hours a week teaching math and science to to the local children, near Kabul, Afghanistan.
I joined the military in 2008 as a means to fund my education. Upon completing my military obligation next summer, I plan to move to San Francisco and complete school.
I am currently studying cognitive science and will transition to either med school, or a PsyD program, after the completion of my undergraduate work. Lately, I have been most interested in psychotherapy and attachment theory.

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy should be considered a work in progress, at this point. I do not believe there is any inherent meaning in life, but instead believe happiness is found in the ability to create personal meaning. I

Current Plans

I am currently In the midst of a year long deployment to Afghanistan. I am given a two week vacation from my obligations here, and plan to visit San Francisco and San Luis Obispo. Originally, I had booked hotel rooms, but recently decided that I don't want to be the sort of person who spends $5,000 to stay in a hotel room for 2 weeks. Why not couch surf? I decided to donate half the money I would have spent on the hotel stays to a worthwhile cause, and signed up for couch surfer. I then formed a simple plan: During the two weeks, Stay with a different host each night. This eliminates the guilt which would come along with spending excessive amounts of money on luxury hotels, while at the same time opening me up to have a truly memorable experience. To further add to my experience, I plan to stay with a rather diverse group of individuals.

Because I am currently in Afghanistan, I am not available to host surfers. Upon my return, In October, I will be. I will return to Betterfarm, an artists retreat and organic farm, set on 200 acres in Alexandria Bay, NY. It is an extremely interesting place and I am more than willing to host anyone willing to make the trip up there.

At BetterFarm, the artist retreat where I live, We have hosted many people from around the world. Each experience was memorable.
