About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Greenvillin'.

ABOUT ME

I like the big wide world but I also dig small-town life on a bike. Will eat pretty much anything. Unfortunately, I might also brag about it. Working on humility.

PHILOSOPHY

Avoid bottled mayonnaise.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Will have a beer with any CSer passing through Greenville. Interested in sharing stories; promise not to steal yours and pass them off as my own. Unless they're really, really good.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I ended up at a cosmonaut party in Atlanta. Dippin' dots will never be the same.

Interests

18th-century English and European literature and culture; hiking, canoeing, camping, downhill & cross-country skiing; environmental issues (as if there's anything that isn't an environmental issue); old bicycles; the ineffable horror of Virginia politics; cooking and eating good food of all kinds, with a funny little fetish for Hungarian.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Wes Anderson, Werner Herzog, RUBIN & ED.

Music: I grew up as a serious indie-rock geek, now branching out all over the place. Got a thing for Albert Ayler, but still carrying a torch for the Mountain Goats. I usually buy vinyl at thrift stores, which lately has gotten me into both '50s calypso and Ozzy Osbourne. And I like the cars -- the cars that go boom.

Books: Tristram Shandy!!! James Boswell's Journals!!! Robinson Crusoe!!! Rousseau's Confessions!!! See a pattern???

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Scuba diving in Bonaire, circa 1984. No one's going to see reefs like that ever again.

Teach, Learn, Share

Anything related to bicycles as transportation (not sports) -- traffic skills, mechanics, public policy.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bahamas, Canada, Cayman Islands, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Honduras, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands Antilles, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turks and Caicos Islands, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Hungary, United States
