About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Nottingham to Gibraltar by bike.

ABOUT ME

7 years ago I completed a cycling trip through SE Asia to celebrate my 50th birthday with friends and family in Sydney. I've also cycled Rome to Nottingham and Nottingham to Edinburgh and back. Moving to China was part 1 of my life change, the cycle tours were part 2. Watch this space for parts 3-4,265. Not a party animal but love to meet like minded people for a beer and a good chat. Hope to meet real people with a sense of adventure.

PHILOSOPHY

I read a very good quote and cheesy as it is, I hold fast to it. 'Life is not about surviving the storm, but about learning how to dance in the rain'. I want to live my life making sure when it's time to go, I regret the things I did, not the things I didn't.

My dad always told me 'be nice to people, you never know what's going on in their lives. You may be the straw that breaks the camels' back'.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I enjoy the CS meetings very much and host whenever possible. I also try to pass the message on to more people wherever I go so that the more rural areas can benefit from it too.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've now hosted many people who have all had something interesting to share. Surfed several times and a great time was had by all. I consider all my hosts and surfers my friends, and hope I leave the same impression.

Interests

Generally enjoy sports (squash, badminton, running, swimming, cycling) and a good book.

Music, Movies, and Books

Any books really, even down to a trashy novel..who cares. Enjoy most music apart from heavy rock or rap (with a silent C)If it makes me shake my body or cry, it has to be good.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Cycled 4000 miles through SE Asia. Scuba diving on The Great Barrier Reef and swimming with a giant turtle. Also saw a cloudless, total eclipse of the sun in China.
I bought a teddy bear for my 4 month old grand daughter for Christmas. She smiled from ear to ear and reached out both arms for it...beautiful.

Teach, Learn, Share

I just want to share the experience of CS with others. I can also help anyone with English and teach some cooking tips for the most boring food on Earth (English). I'd also like to change some of the attitudes of younger CSers towards more mature ones, we really have 'been there, done that'.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Belgium, Cambodia, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, United States, Viet Nam
