About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

ABOUT ME

We are constantly seeking adventure (carpe diem!), and strive to make each day more interesting than the previous.

She (Brittany) is a small-town girl a long way from home pursuing a degree in Baking and Pastry. He (Jordan) is along for the ride, while pursuing a degree in Classics.

PHILOSOPHY

The realm of possibilities is boundless and we should never hold ourselves to a static world-view. Just as people evolve, so do our opinions. But what we believe in, we truly believe and would be happy to discuss it with fellow surfers/hosts.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Newbies. Since we are newbies, obviously, we are not going to have many references. Neither of us use Facebook, which seems to be the dominant means of connecting with other surfers for "references." So, as we begin this CS adventure, our only means of acquiring references will be through actual human interactions--the way we think CS should be. So, for now, please be patient with us.

Music, Movies, and Books

The list of movies are endless, so we'll group by directors/categories:

-P.T. Anderson--pretty much enjoy all this guy's stuff; plus his wife is hilarious.
-Lars Von Trier--only have seen one of his--Melancholia--but, wow, did it blow us away.
-Sergio Leone--introduced me (Jordan) to one of my favorite composers, Ennio Morricone
-And, of course, the usual suspects: Scorsese, Spielberg, Coppola, Tarantino

Music (Jordan):

Classical--Romantic (Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky) Impressionist (Ravel, Debussy), Modern (Gershwin, Copland, William Grant Still), Minimalist (Glass). There are a multitude of other composers, but these are just the ones that immediately pop up.

Hip-hop (Jordan and Brittany): early 2000's Cash Money, Common, Nas, pre-"retirement" Jay-Z, Biggie, old-school L.L. Cool J, Drake, Lil Wayne, Andree 3000, UGK, 3-6 Mafia, Tupac

R&B (Jordan and Brittany): The Isley Brothers, Marvin Gaye, Erykah Badu, Sade, Tracy Chapman, Maxwell, Anita Baker...basically, lot's of old-school and neo-soul stuff.

Jazz (Jordan and Brittany)--Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Tommy Dorsey, Dave Brubeck, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, and Frank Sinatra.

Rock (Jordan and Brittany)--60's through 90's...too many to count, so we'll just list a few from each decade: The Doors, Janice Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, The Who,; Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Frampton, Queen, The Grateful Dead; The Police, Wham!, Tears for Fears; Enigma, The Cranberries, Mazzy Star, Ani DeFranco, Tori Amos, The Wallflowers.

Country (Mostly Brittany): Pasty Cline, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, 90's Reba McIntire, and 90's Brooks & Dunn.

Books (Jordan):
Homer, Catullus, Horace, Vergil, Sappho, Euripides, Sir Phillip Sydney, Donne, Reddick, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, T.S. Eliot, W.C. Williams, Auden, W.S. Merwin, kauzuo Ishiguro, W.B. Yeats, James Joyce, Emerson, Walt Whitman, Yukio Mishima, Raymond Carver, Cormac McCarthy, Susan Sontag...this list could go on, but to some up, I like everything from the Classical to the Post-Modern

Books (Brittany): Anne Rice, Go Ask Alice, Dizzy and Jimmy, Enrique's Journey...obviously, we know who the reader is between the two of us. I would rather be knitting.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Driving through the Blue Ridge Mountains at sunset.

Visiting New York and eating pizza and cupcakes everyday.

Teach, Learn, Share

We can teach you new words in a few different languages, share some recipes, and how to make hemp jewelry. We always enjoy learning new things, especially about geography or just culture in general.
