About Me

ABOUT ME

Well my best friends would relish the chance to 'take the piss' first and foremost, but once they had their fun I think they would say I am an outgoing, friendly sort. Someone who likes to have a good time, discover new things, and is above all adventurous. I would hope they would also mention that I have a deep appreciation for cultures that are different than my own and that I am the type of person that soaks up knowledge -- a good guy with a good conscience.

Interests

I can normally be found anywhere you can find a good doughnut or a stout beer. I enjoy trying new foods and dancing until dawn. I like to hike treacherous trails as much as I like to lie lazily upon a warm beach. I am comfortable in my own skin, an attribute I have found that makes traveling quite a bit more enjoyable. I sometimes avoid the typical touristy locales in favor of enjoying a pint in the neighborhood local.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was traveling in the Tibeten plateaus of China when I encountered a Buddhist monk that well into his 90's. He spoke no English and I spoke no Madeiran, yet I immediately felt so welcome in his temple. He pointed to the sites and scenes that could be viewed from our location and we shared laughter and an understanding of each other. Before I left I showed him my camera and gestured so he would know I was asking for a picture of the two of us. He immediately left to go back inside the temple and I thought I had offended him. However he came back shortly wearing what I guessed was is more ceremonial attire and he laughed. I was touched that such a noble person was so nice to me and appreciative of my company. I learned so much about the human spirit from that man. I will never forget the afternoon we spent together.
