About Me

Undergratuate student on Control Systems and Automation Engineering, moving to Germany for 6 months to complete an internship on the field. Looking for some friendly faces to spend my free time with. I have many hobbies including reading books, hiking and cycling and really want to have a good time.

My internship in Germany is working with the software for robots at Fraunhofer IPA. When people ask me I used to say it's about writing code that integrates predictive control to generate optimized paths for motion planning, but that's too boring so now I just say I'm trying to dominate the world with robots (seriously, this is what I do https://i.imgur.com/IcHBvml.mp4)

I speak both English and Portuguese but I'm hopefully making progress in German too.

I can make great pizza!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I initially downloaded the app just to meet new people. I had such great experiences with CS in my first travel alone that I'm now sticking to it and hoping to find more amazing people throughout my trips.

I like to have conversations about everything, but if you are into science then we will have more things in common. I find it really interesting when I can go to bars with people and make jokes about special relativity.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite fiction of all time will be the Dark Tower Series, that proves that you can build crazy stories that somehow make sense.

My favorite non-fiction is "Por um fio", or "Hang by a thread", the stories a brazilian cancerologist collected over all the year he spent on the medical field. This in one of the books that I hoped existed in other languages too (other than portuguese), because it hits you so hard and carries such a strong message.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I really like to stuff that people can enjoy for free just for the sake of learning how to do it. For instance, when I was in university we offered free crash courses on Arduino (google it, it's fun!) for students to teach the concepts of electronics and programming. I also write a personal blog (in portuguese, unfortunatelly) about teaching nerdy stuff, as teaching is somewhat of a passion for me (you can read in https://bvanelli.github.io/).

I can run half a marathon (21.1 km) in less than 2 hours.

I can solve a rubik's cube in less than 20 seconds.

I won gold medal for two consecutive years in the The Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad of Public Schools (yeah, nerd).

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you:

- Card tricks
- How to make bread
- How bitcoin works

I want to learn pretty much anything you can teach me. Want to show me how to play piano? Sure. Want to teach me how to iceskate backwards? Please do. How to make food from your home town? Amazing!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I like making food. Especially, I like everything that has dough on it, including pizza and bread. I also like to talk about life in general, from really broad topics like traveling to really narrow topics like the roles of cryptography is society (please don't ask me how to invest on Bitcoin tho).
